“Skip Boulders Beach - Go Here!”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

If you can only go to one beach to see the penguins, this is the one. It is cheaper, has less people and greater access to the penguins. Amazing.

“Betty's penguins”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

It is easy to forget that the African Penguin (previously called the Jackass Penguin owing to its call) is endangered when viewing penguins in such numbers. We visited here on the advice of friends who had been to Boulders Beach and reckoned Betty's Bay to be better. Plenty of other marine bird life there as well.

“Best place to see the African penguins”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We came here first and Boulder's Beach the next day. The two are quite different but would definitely make this the #1 choice. It took a bit of an effort to find the spot - there was a sign on the R44 for penguins but the next turn only had sign for Long Point; from R44, left on Porter, left on Crassula to stop sign near end, right on Waller and park (signs are visible here; R10 admission fee). The board walk here is longer, penguins are everywhere and although we visited during off season, I imagine this spot will be less crowded always. The drive between Betty's Bay and Gordon's Bay is every bit as impressive as Chapman Peak Drive.

“Better than Boulders Beach”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Although this is not as near to Cape Town as Boulders Beach it is worth the extra effort to get here. Over the last few years we have visited Boulders Beach and here two times each and Stony Point is so much quieter and less touristy. Well worth the 10 Rand entry fee - you will end up taking many photos!

“Well worth a quick detour on the way to Hermanus (from CPT)”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

We'd already seen the Penguins at Boulder's Beach, but were glad that we managed to visit here as well (on the way back from a day-trip to Hermanus). Still more rustic than Boulders (though there's a new car park, and some additional facilities apparently on the way).

Signposting is still a bit tricky if you're travelling from Hermanus, but well worth it.
