Well worth the trip. Penguins everywhere! (and loads of Dassies!). Long boardwalk which takes you through the colony which is very well maintained. We also visited the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden also in Betty's Bay on the same day. A great way to spend a day. The restaurant in the gardens is excellent.

Boulders or Bettys? I put that out to the TA forum and got 5 votes for Bettys, 2 for Boulders. Even our local host suggested Boulders--but she had not visited Bettys. Bettys (Stony Point) was excellent. 10 zar pp. Long boardwalk with multiple viewing areas. Mid- March, not too many visitors, very low key and warm weather. Lots of penguins. Was impressed with the Reserve's projects--especially the little penguin houses on the north side of the boardwalk. Very interesting. Outside the reserve, next to the parking lot, there are some bathrooms. They don't look very inviting from the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised inside. Much cleaner and more upscale than I would have thought.

My mother-in-law from the UK is not an 'animal person' but she loves penguins. She was enthralled and delighted by tour visit to the Penguin Colony and declared it much better than Boulders, which she visited many years ago. We got some great photos and the penguins performed for us!

Compared to the over crowded Boulders Beach you can watch the funny penguins in silence :-) additionall you can go to a wonderful botanical garden neaby (Harold Porter Botanical Garden) where you can walk to a pond and a wodnerful waterfall within the botanical garden. And close by is Kleinmond where you can find curiosity shops in the Harbour Rd as well as wonderful fish restaurants. And do not forget to have a short walk on the left side of the harbour in the feinbos area along the coast.

Went here a day after a visit to the Boulders Beach colony. It only costs R10 to get in and there are loads of penguins but no crowds! The location is less pretty than Boulders Beach (rocks rather than sandy beach) but the penguins are just as cute.
