Description: The award winning Falcon Inn nestles with the heart of the village of Fotheringhay, famous as the birth place of Richard III and the place where Mary Queen of Scots ended her days after being held captive in Fotheringhay castle for 12 years. From fine ingredients, sourced locally where possible, our frequently changing menus offer something for all, from traditional wholesome bar food to delicious a la carte cuisine. Our friendly and enthusiastic team will welcome you back again and again.Enjoy our wonderful food, along with fine wines and real ales, in charming surroundings. Log fires, fresh flowers, a beautiful garden and conservatory overlooking the splendid church... a truly lovely experience.

Well, Richard III is very popular at the moment so we thought we would pull in a visit to Fotheringhay to see his birthplace. We were a bit hungry so pulled into the Falcon on a Saturday lunchtime - the place was packed but we were offered a table but informed we might have to wait which was OK. There is a lovely conservatory area but we were just inside the old building in a really nice spot. We only wanted a snack so had open sandwiches of various sorts which were really very good and nicely served. Will certainly think of coming back to enjoy a full meal.

Entertained clients here and the food was great. However despite having a two course dinner I still needed a sandwich shortly after eating!

Lovely food therefore but wish there was more of it.

My wife and I have been visiting the Falcon Inn for many years now, always trying to find an excuse to travel 25 miles each way for a meal. If you have a dog, park up and walk across the glorious water meadows to Warmington Mill. Come back and enjoy a fantastic bar meal and a good pint, in the garden if the weather is fine. What more can one want?
In all that time we have never been disappointed with the quality of the food, the friendly and attentive service or the atmosphere.Only once found that the bar menu was not what we wanted. This however was down to personal gastronomic preferences and not a reflection on the menu itself; it just did not hit the spot that time.
Value for money? The best for miles around by far. Now we just have to look for more excuses to come to Fotheringhay!

Fotheringhay is a charming, glorious location steeped in history and over the many years we have been visiting the Falcon (quite a long trek from where we live), we have never been disappointed. We often take guests, old and young, sprightly and frail. Nothing is too much trouble: 2 starters for one, a set-lunch or a la carte for another, oh, and can you just change one thing on that choice ... Good beer, and excellent by-the-glass wine but, most importantly for us, excellent food, which is always up-to-standard, and friendly, albeit "local", service. We always book in advance - and would recommend this. This time we ate in the "conservatory", but we often eat in the bar, or outside in the idyllic surroundings when it's somewhat warmer than it has been recently! On this occasion, our guest's verdict was: fab! I also rate this gastro-pub as good value for the quality (and quantity); we'll be back ...

Like the reviewer below, I also decided to have a special Bank holiday lunch. I'm not usually a great one for writing reviews but felt I had to set a few things straight after the totally unfair review below.

We arrived to a very warm welcome at the bar and were shown through to the orangery which had fantastic views of the church. The whole place was decorated very tastefully and we felt very comfortable. We were made to wait a short while for the bread and butter but given that this is the post-war era and the days of rations and powdered egg are well over I can't say that this really bothered me at all.

There were two noisy tables in the orangery but we love a good atmosphere and happy people. We find this is usually the sign of a good restaurant. I had the lamb which was really tasty and found the fat helped to give the lamb a lovely flavour and the dauphinoise was cooked beautifully. I witnessed the reviewer commenting on the lamb and really think the management tried hard to please her but I guess some people just can't be pleased :-(.

We left completely satisfied and suggest to anyone who wants anything other than this; a weight watchers microwavable lamb hotpot and countryfile with the volume down! Overall, we had a great time and would recommend it to anyone.

Thank you for your comments - you're right, it was particularly noisy that day as there were two large families joining us who all had a lovely time. Delighted you enjoyed the lamb as most others did - I thought the flavour was superb also. We hope to see you again.
