Lovely location and fantastic little shepherds hut with everything you need to make your stay special
We will return at some point
Jenny was a fantastic host and a stay at the hut provided a fantastically unique escape from city life. Everything was thought of, from the ready to light fire pit to the local eggs (literally from the chickens in the garden) and milk in the fridge. The hut faces out into the woods so you really feel like you are amongst nature. We really can't recommend a stay here enough, our only regret is only staying for one night!
Our second stay at this amazing place and definitely not our last. Ideal location and the surrounding woodland on the doorstep is perfect to kick back, relax and enjoy the peace & quiet. We saw a variety of animals close up including birds, squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, deer and there is also a beaver conservation area nearby which can be booked to visit. We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by the hosts Jen & Nick - a lovely, friendly, helpful couple whose passion for what they have created here is plain for all to see, and are always striving to improve and add new elements for their guests Witherdon Wood experience. Nothing is too much trouble and they will ensure your stay is perfect, from providing homely touches in the hut to offering local advice on places to visit/eat. The information pack provided is well worth reading, providing a lot of local information on the surrounding area. On this visit we booked the Withy Willow craft session and can definitely recommend it - a masterclass of willow weaving, with full on assistance and expert advice along the way, resulting in a handmade creation that you feel proud to have made with your own hands. We can't wait to visit again!
Sadly there's only 5 stars available....we spent our wedding anniversary at the Hut 21-24th April 2017.... where do we start? I could just say that everything was perfect but it's not enough! The place is beautiful and very relaxing, tranquility and serenity. The Hut has got everything you might need, from books, games, lots of info about what to see and do around, cleaning products, pans, tea and coffee, ketchup and mustard....we loved every minute of it. BBQ for dinner if you don't want to go out, and start the fire at night to watch millions of stars :) The bed is very comfortable - Nick did an excellent job building the Hut - yes, he build it from scratch himself! The owners Jenny and Nick are such amazing people! So lovely and helpful, so passionate about the place and they keep improving! Next time we have to try the withy willow classes! Very crafty! ...not a bad word to say about anything, we're in awe.The birds singing every morning was the cherry on the top. Close to many attractions, Tintagel Castle and beach are a must see only 1h away, Dartmoor NP, 30min to Lydford Gorge. We will be back as we think we made some good friends with Jen and Nick! We need to see Bella again :) and the chickens! Can't wait when they'll convert the Horse Lorry into accommodation! Nick and Jen are on it! Beautiful place, fantastic people, dogs, chickens, pheasants, squirrels, rabbits, deer, birds ...our heaven on earth!!! <3
We had an amazing stay. The hut itself is incredible, cosy and quaint. It was really relaxing and allowed us to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The views were amazing and it was lovely to watch the birds feeding in the morning. The fire pit is a great addition. There were lots of things to do. Jenny was very helpful and welcoming. We can't wait to visit again!
