After reading the many good things that were written about Casa Alvarada, we decided to stay there for our anniversary this year. We were not disappointed! Our hosts Jupiter and Mara made us feel welcome - they are very knowledgeable about Comala and surroundings, and are very willing to share their knowledge with their guests. The perfect place for a truly delightful mini vacation! Oh, and don't forget to book a tour with Jupiter during your stay, to see the volcano, whether up close by hiking, or at a safe distance by car or horseback. It's well worth it

I liked this little place because it is as if you are staying in your own place. You can come and go and you please and Jupiter and Mara make you breakfast in the mornings....!!! how cool is that... like having breaky with a part of the fam. If you want privacy, its yours. We asked for no one to enter our room.... and no one did. Located only a few blocks from everything.... made it easy to find what we were looking for and because we stayed in the main room and it had a kitchen, we had the choice to go out or stay in for dinner. The only ting that could of use fixing was the counter.... was disconnected from the wall. Other than that... I would travel here again. Thanks Casa Alvarada.

Room Tip: El Moñar Rangaliano is where we stayed. Spacious and comfortable.

My husband and I were in Manzanillo for a month and thought we’d take a trip to Comala. Casa Alvarada Bed and Breakfast came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. I made the reservation by email and everything was very efficient.
We took a bus to Colima from Manzanillo and then a taxi to Comala and the B&B. Mara had emailed a detailed map so it was easy to find. We arrived before noon and as our room wasn’t quite ready, we left our luggage there and went to stroll through the town and explore.
We came back about 2 hours later and our room, the Moñar Rangeliano room was ready and our luggage had already been put in the room. The room was fresh and very clean. Everything we needed was there, including coffee that we could make the next morning. We had found a small convenience store and had bought a few other things we wanted. The mini fridge worked well and kept our “cerveza’ nice and cold.
The room and all its detail was lovely. Bed was very comfortable and everything worked well. We loved our own personal patio. There was no one else staying there that night so we had the whole place to ourselves.
After settling in, we again went out to check out this cute town. Casa Alvarada is only a short stroll to the town’s center. We had a wonderful afternoon, had drinks and botana’s at Don Camalon. Bought a bottle of Ponche, and enjoyed exploring the town.
The following morning we were served a delicious breakfast inside the home of Mara and Jupiter. They are very proud to serve a different breakfast every day, so you won’t get bored with them if you are staying longer than we did. Again, everything was so clean. We were going on the 6 hour Volcano tour with Jupiter after breakfast. Part way through breakfast he asked if he could join us. This was great as we got to know each other a little before setting off for the day.
Jupiter runs Admire Mexico Tours, as well as owning this B&B with Mara. After breakfast we packed up our things and set off for the day with Jupiter. We don’t often take arranged tours, but this was exceptional. Jupiter is very knowledgeable, his English is excellent and he’s a very pleasant and considerate person. We thoroughly enjoyed out day with him. Following our tour, Jupiter drove us back to the bus station in Colima…and we headed back to Manzanillo.
We were very pleased with both Casa Alvarada Bed and Breakfast and Admire Mexico Tours and will recommend them both. A great experience! Thank you Mara and Jupiter.

Room clean if not huge. Not the Ritz but the bed was one of the most comfortable i've had in Mexico. Breakfast first class. Hosts answered all our questions in excellent English. Jupiter does a first class tour. Very professional in all respects. Bill & Linda (BC).

Room Tip: Probably worth it to book the larger room for the small extra cost.

We stayed there an long weekend (3 nights). First we get the orange room. We were disapointed. It was not what the picture promissed. Lukkely we could change to the blue room. This was spacey, clean and comfortable. Al facilitys were there and worked perfect. Yes, there was a door to the house of the host, but it was quite at our time. The breakfast was okay, fresh orange jus and fresh fruit, something sweet and a omelet (every day another kind). Once we also had breakfast in there house (and not in the garden). I can imagine that this feld unconfortable for some people.
Comala itself was a very nice small place. We ate taco's at Donna Marie and had lunch at the square in very nice restaurants, because these all are closed after 18.00.
We also booked a 6 houre tour with jupiter to the vulcano. It was nothing special, because we dit not get close to the vulcano. we saw him from a distance. The coffee factory was at that time not working, pitty. The lunch was not more than a free drink, at the square you will always get free tappas when you have ordered a drink.

Room Tip: Choose the blue room

Marcel, we are very thank you for your observations, we've already instructed our webmaster to publish new picutres of the Murmullo room now with the new king size bed instead of the 2 doubles, the rest of the furniture is exactly as it was.
We are happy to now that you ejnoyed your stay in Mosaico room after you switched.
We saw your candid pictures of the room and they help to transmite the idea of this "art collection",.
We always keep in the room a list of all Comala restaurants, those available in town or in the permises.
About dinner time after the botaneros are closed at 18:00, there are at least 5 different options to choose that came from tacos, tortas, pozole to pizzas, stuffed potatos, hamburgers or evena French style restaurant ;all in walking distance from our facilities.
We will be waiitng to see you and your friend in a near future.
P.S: I'm number one fan of Doña Mary tacos !

After finding this place online, it sounded like a great place and the pictures looked amazing. Upon our arrival it was quite a disappointment and NOT at all what it looked like in the pictures. The so called "private garden and patio" wasn't much more than a dirty slab of concrete full of leaves, dust and cobwebs. The hanging bed looked like it was so old that it was about to break, and there were no signs of illuminated candles at night. The room we were in didn't even resemble a fraction of what the pictures portrayed. The room was very dull, and lacking character. Just very plain to say the least. There was also a locked door right next to the beds that we could hear people talking and coughing throughout the night. There was also the sound of dogs barking, people walking and shouting in the streets and traffic noise all night. The breakfast was very bland, the hosts never seemed to be around, and when they were, they did the bare minimum they had to and seemed like very unhappy people. The wifi was also very limited and sparatic. We cut our stay short, due to the quality of this place and would not recommend it to anyone.

Dear Diane and Joel:
Thank you both for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding our bed and breakfast.
We are certainly disappointed that your stay was not all that it could have been.
We would like to apologize on behalf of Casa Alvarada and its team for your disappointing experience.
Our team has being instructed to stress on the cleanliness situations you mentioned and will make our best effort to raise our standards. About dinner time after the “botaneros” are closed at 18:00, there are at least 5 different options to choose; those are mentioned in a the booklet guide of the town we have in our rooms. We noticed that your experience was also affected by the fact that the rooms are connected to our house and the breakfast is served in our dining room, but that’s a defining characteristic of a bed and breakfast and we struggle ourselves to keep a maximum of respect of our guest privacy, so we will work on apply a kind of refurbishment to create much thicker underlay which we believe will soften any noise coming into the rooms via any doorways.
In regards to our service to you, during those hours you were here, we can’t be sure of what we did or didn’t do to make you feel that way, but we are nothing else than sorry about it and can do lees to invite you to accept our apologies and do hope that the memories of the rest of your trip to the Mexican pacific coast were more enjoyable.
