“Beautiful hotel”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

A lovely hotel. This was our second visit and we rarely return to the same place twice. Room was spotless and views spectacular. Staff could not have been more helpful.

We booked B&B only as we enjoy going out and about and eating with the locals so cannot comment on the food to a great degree. Breakfast was fine and the meals/snacks we saw at lunchtime looked delicious. Drinks served by the fabulous bar staff on the beach, how spoilt can you be. Look out for Stella and Maggi just two of the many bar staff always so friendly and helpful.

Beautifully situated overlooking it,s own private beach. Approx. 25 minutes walk down to the harbour in Skiathos Town which we did most evenings, where there is an excellent choice of restaurants etc to chose from. For those who do not like walking there is a frequent local bus which stops outside the hotel and a never ending supply of taxis passing or the hotel's own mini bus which can be booked at reception. (Whilst mentioning transport if booking a package holiday it is much cheaper to get a taxi to the hotel from the airport - approx 12-15 Euros and we were quoted £96 for a return transfer - we learnt from experience last year.

We can also recommend a day trip with Captain George in his catamaran, sailing, swimming, lunch, a lovely way to relax. Berthed opposite the FRESH cafe on the Harbour.

Skopolos and Alonysos are also well worth a visit whilst you are in Greece and can be done in a day.

Overall it is a lovely hotel to stay and we definitely hope to return in the future. We have travelled to many places but Greece still remains one of our favourite destinations.

Room Tip: Room 422 lovely Higher level rooms in original hotel have spectacular views

Don't be fooled by the Greek 5 star rating, as by UK standards, its more 3-4 star.

I couldn't agree more with the below review by bagpuss0707 as the principal issue that let this hotel down is the food - particularly the lack of a choice for kids and the absence of food labelling. A separate, speciality grill and more fish choice would be a start. Oh, and some ice cream for the kids!

The other issue that prevents this hotel from being 5 star is the lack of finesse and attention to detail in the service. This could be easily resolved through extra training for the clearly young and inexperienced staff.

Aside from these matters, you cannot fault the hotel in terms of its beautiful beachfront setting, the spectacular views and its clean and modern rooms. All in all, I had a great stay at this hotel and would probably still come back. Despite the problems raised, the hotel has a lot of positives and if 'management' take the comments raised on board, this would make the difference between a very good hotel and a great hotel.

One final thing, please change the 1 CD that's on loop in the pool area. There's only so many times you can listed to the same music.

Room Tip: All rooms offers some sort of sea view. If you have young children, avoid the duplex rooms.

We stayed in a family room with a sea view. The hotel is spotless at all times, we couldn't fault it. The staff were all very friendly and great with children. Beach towels are provided which was a godsend. No travel washing required! Upon arrival to our room there were 2 small bottles of water and 2 cans of fizzy drink in our fridge which was very well received after the hot transfer and were free. The hotel staff also bring your bags to your room for you.

The wi-fi in the hotel is not built to cope and I probably got a connection maybe 8 times and even then it kept dropping off. We went to many other places where the wi-fi was excellent and for a platinum hotel this could be easily resolved.

There are 2 pools, one with a small area for children. There are some tiles near by the kids pool however that are absolutely lethal with wet feet, saw many a person, including myself slip on them.

The beach is a bit shingly but nice enough and there are free sunbeds and umbrellas. There is even the added treat of having a bell attached to the umbrellas so that you can summon a member of staff to fetch you a drink or a snack which was a lovely touch.

There are a lot of great things about the hotel, but the thing that lets them down is the food. I have read many other reviews that say this is an issue as well. Nothing was labelled at all. You had no idea whether you were selecting apple pie or cheese pie.

For breakfast there was a range of pastries, salad, fruit, cereals, toast and a cooked breakfast. Oddly though, their idea of a cooked breakfast consisted of pizza, chips, beans scrambled and fried eggs, german sausage and some sort of meat rasher that i could never identify. For a 5 star hotel I would at least expect some sort of rotation to offer bacon and maybe english sausage. I would also have expected some sort of show cooking to offer pancakes or omelettes of your choice. Breakfast issues could easily be resolved with a few minor changes and some labelling.

Dinner was where the main issues are. If you have small children then there is no food on offer for them. I don't expect a dedicated section but most kids will eat plain foods like pasta, burgers or pizza or fish or chips even but there was never anything like that on offer. To get food for a child you have to order from the a-la carte menu at a cost of 7 euros a meal or order a snack from the bar and even then the choice is limited.

Again there are no labels to identify the food. There are issues with food warmth, most of the time it was lukewarm at best. The soup was a best guess and the main meals were all bland. We only paid 42p to upgrade to half board, and from my experience I would never pay to upgrade again, we ate out most of the time.

There are a lot of issues to be resolved with the food before I would class it as being a 5 star hotel. My suggestions would be:
* Offer some child friendly choices
* Ensure the food can be kept piping hot
*Label the food
*Offer more than one veg choice
* Post a menu in reception listing the food for the night so people can make an informed choice
* Perform some show cooking, offer a greek night, or a BBQ

I loved this hotel and would like to return but the food needs to change!

Dear bagpuss0707,
thank you for taking to post your comment on trip advisor following your recent stay at the Kassandra Bay Resort.
Your feedback is always constructive and always taken into account seriously by all members of the management team.
I would have to repeat again that our breakfast caters for all tastes. Breakfast ranges from eggs to healthy Greek style breakfast with yoghutr, Greek pies, dried fruit and fresh fruit. Regarding the sausage it is Greek traditional sausage and not German. We try to promote Greek products and ingredients but also have some dishes mainly for our UK guests i.e. baked beans as per their request. I can imagine that there was a rich choice to choose from. Show cooking with freshly prepared crepes is now offered in the breakfast area.
Food in breakfast and dinner is labelled, and we do offer kids menu. I would have to agree that maybe the waiters forgot to offer the kids menu together with lunch or dinner menu so please except our apologies on this matter.
We do hope to welcome you back to our resort so that you can experience our food improvements.

Kind Regards,
The Kassandra Bay Management Team

We stayed at Kassandra Bay on Half board for 2 weeks over the May Bank holiday and could not understand what all the fuss is about. The hotel describes itself as a 5 Star Resort. It is neither 5 Star nor a Resort! Breakfast is shabby( motorway services standard) with orange squash instead of fresh juice. fried eggs are precooked and hard and cold and for the first week there was some reconstituted pork product instead of bacon. In our experience even good 4 Star hotels now offer fresh juice and eggs and omelettes cooked to order.
Dinner was a shambles. There is no Maitre D' to greet you when you arrive or to explain how the dining room works. We paid for Half board but only ate there 3 times in our 14 night stay, the food quality was that bad.We asked for a wine cooler one night and got a small bucket of ice!Nobody manages the process. The only bar open was the pool bar which wasn't a great place for a pre dinner drink so we didn't bother! Entertainment was non existent . Won't be going back, there are much better options available on the island.

We spent another great holiday at Kassandra Bay Resort. As always, service was fantastic, in our Room, at Breakfast, at the Beach or the Pool. From the first moment one walks into the Reception feels this will be a lovely holiday. We already booked for next year May/June 2014. Our thanks to all the staff and we look forward to seeing them all again. Tony & Judith Tiritas

We have been to Skiathos 7 times in total and Kassandra Bay Hotel 4 times over the past 7 years and this year found the hotel better than ever! All the staff were amazing, the hotel was spotless, food and drink excellent. Our room was classed as Superior and was roomy, clean, cool and the bed was huge. We will be back for a 5th visit. The island of Skiathos is wonderful.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view on higher floors.
