“Best Holiday Ever!!”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

Just come back from 2 lovely weeks at Kassandra Bay Hotel in Skiathos.
We cannot fault the hotel or staff who were friendly, and couldn't do enough to help, also hard working and really on the ball. Our rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels left, also every 2 days beach towels were changed. This saved a lot on our baggage allowance. The grounds of the hotel are immaculate and the gardens are well tended to. Breakfast was plentiful and the choices were endless! The location was a little way from town but this was stipulated in the brochure. The beach was coarse sand and there was always sunbeds available up until early afternoon at least. The beach servce was excellent this was mainly due to Nikola, who ran around non-stop, pleasant and always with a smile! We have to say a very special thank you to Liana (on Reception) as she made our stay unforgetable...our son (who was with us) proposed to his girlfriend and Liana helped 'big time' to make it an occasion to remember. She arranged for beautiful flowers to be placed in their room, and their room was romantically decorated with petals, ribbons, bucket of ice for Champagne etc every day for a week, also she gave (excellent) advice as to where they should go for their celebratory meal. She also advised us where to eat in town, which we can honestly say we didn't have one bad meal. So a special special thank you Liana, you are a real asset and a gem to the hotel as are all the other reception staff. We hope to be back next year and would definitly book Hotel Kassandra again!!

My husband and I stayed in the Kassandra Bay Hotel last week and I must say we were both very pleased with it. Our double sea view room was very nice, although we might have been even more satisfied with a room in the new wing, especially because those rooms must have the nicest sea view. Breakfast was truly excellent (from 7 to 10 am), a lot to choose from! However, we prefered going to breakfast earlier in the morning since it wasn't that crowdy and noisy as it was from 9 to 10 when most guests were there. Very clean hotel, quiet, nice atmosphere and the garden surroundings, also very kind hotel staff...we rented a car for three days to see the Island Skiathos, other days we simply took the bus (bus station is nearby to the hotel) or taxi (we payed 8 EUR to Skiathos town). We also loved the water taxi to Skiathos town (the taxi stops at the Kassandra Bay every hour I believe from 19 to 24pm), which was a 10 min travel, very nice and affordable (2 Eur per person). You can get the schedule for the bus and the water taxi at the hotel reception.

I recently visited the Kassandra Bay Hotel on my honeymoon and had a very enjoyable time. The location of the hotel is very good, the only issue being the distance to the nearest supermarket. If it was a flat walk it would be fine however walking alongside the road on a steep slope is not always fun when trying to transport bottles of water. On the other side it is very easy to get the bus to anywhere else along the route.

The family room we stayed in was very nice and it was cleaned every day to a good standard. The balcony was very spacious for us and it had a lovely view out to see which we very much enjoyed.

The swimming pools were both very nice and the beach was fine, not really comparable to the likes of Koukounaries beach but was nice and clear water with free sunbeds.

However, the big problem was the service. I truly believe that good service is not hard to achieve and the hotel staff did not even attempt to reach this. The pool bar staff are terminally slow at bothering to come and take your order and we mostly had to stand up and make our way to the bar before they bothered to break away from chatting and do their job. Equally, trying to get the bill was torturous at times too. The pool bar food was good however as stated in other reviews, far too expensive. Breakfast was the complete reverse and they rushed to clear your table before you finished eating, making you feel like you were a real inconvenience and in fact did take a plate from me whilst I was still actively eating a pastry off it. The final straw realy was the Greek BBQ night which for my opinion I could not recommend against more highly sadly. The food was a lukewarm buffet with meat that was mostly just fat and we were not only charged over ten euros for a small bottle of ouzo but we had to wait 35 minutes after arriving to order drinks, and only when we collared someone did they bother to take our order. I truly felt I was in the way and they were unfriendly and unhelpful, luckily for me we only paid for breakfast but I think the hotel needs to seriously rethink the way in which the staff interact with guests if they want to continue being considered a '5 star' resort.

This aside, I genuinely enjoyed my stay at the hotel as I was able to minimise my interaction with the above and it is a lovely place to come and relax and is very well situated for both ends of the island and the water taxi into Skiathos town was particularly good.

Dear DanielT,
We are glad that you enjoyed your stay overall and we truly appreciate your comments in a continuous attempt to improve.
We are sorry to hear that our buffet dinner and overall service did not meet your expectations, despite our efforts. We do believe that your comments do hide some degree of exaggeration due to the fact that the overall clientele is satisfied with the service provided, especially during breakfast. Waiters rushing during peak hours in the breakfast room is only natural when the hotel is full and clients need to be served.
Nevertheless, we have taken your comments into account and consider taking action on relevant matters.
Looking forward to welcoming you again to the Kassandra Bay Hotel.

Kind Regards,

Loved staying at this hotel and i would love to come back next year! However i wont come back, my holiday depends on a good swimming pool as i have sensative skin and sea water makes my skin itchy, i was horrified on my first day to find out the pool was sea water. This was not mentioned on the hotel website or by First Choice, shame as i was 100% happy with everything else

Dear Suzyted,
It is always a pleasure for us to receive positive comments from our guests and we appreciate you taking the time to share these through TripAdvisor. We would like to inform you that it is clearly stated in our hotel website that the water is salty and this is due to the fact as already explained in previous reviews that there is no water provision in the island. The hotel needs to find its own resources from land drills and although water is being elaborated and desalinated its salty flavour cannot be totally excluded.
We really hope to welcome you again to the Kassandra Bay Hotel in the future.

Kind Regards,
Efi Kalaitzidis

We have just returned from Skiathos having stayed in the Kassandra Bay Hotel in the last 2 weeks in August. We booked the hotel through Olympic Holidays after reading the numerous very good and excellent reviews and would have to say that by and large the content of the reviews reflects the hotel well.

We travelled as 2 families of 4 booking maisonettes. On arrival we were greeted by an extremely friendly reception team but were told that only one of the 2 rooms was ready. However the hotel did offer refreshments in the bar (wine for the adults and juice for the children, the only disappointment being that though one of the adult party didn't like wine they wouldn't allow a swap to a draft beer).

The preparation of the 2nd room was completed very swiftly and the cases delivered promptly and courteously by the bell boy. The rooms, as noted elsewhere, are basic and the detailing isn't true 5 star (paint on architraves, unfinished holes where tv cables and sink pipes are brought out etc) but, if compared to other Greek hotels, are of a standard that warrants a high star rating for a holiday hotel. As with all hotels in Greece, the drainage doesn't allow you to put toilet paper in the pan. The maisonettes are in the old blocks and, having asked a maid whilst she was cleaning an empty room, had a looked in the newer block would suggest booking a room here as the hotel has improved the rooms. The views from the sea view rooms are stunning.

The pool area is very clean and tidy, though as noted the wood gets very hot during the day (but so does the sand on the beach) with plenty of sun beds. The pools, despite Olympic claiming they are freshwater are, salt water pools but the filter systems are clearly very good and the water is very clear.

The breakfast restaurant is well furnished, though a table for 8 had to be created each morning, the food good, plentiful and frequently replenished. The only complaint is that the staff never smile and on occasions give the impression that the guest is in the way; to be truly 5 star customer service must come first and be provided with a smile.

The bar by the pool is well stocked and furnished but you only buy one drink because a place looks good. The prices are too high and consequently the area lacks atmosphere as night as it is used by too few of the guests (the bar next door sell 500ml bottled Mythos for 3 Euros the bar 330ml Mythos for 4 etc) and again the staff (with the exception of a young man named Christos and a blonde waitress) do not smile. The main restaurant suffers the same problem, though the food was well prepared.

The beach, as noted is not the greatest, very course grit and stones and, even though it is public, should be raked by the hotel (they claim they are 5 star after all) but water is clean and the hotel do serve to the sun beds ( again with a smile in future would help).

The hotel is a little too far from Skiathos town to walk and the path runs out but my wife asked the water taxi for a 'season ticket' which he was happy to discuss taking 2-3 euros off the price if used regularly. Taxis are of a good quality and around 9 euros in and 7 euros out of town (we couldn't work out why a late night taxi was cheaper) and reception happy to order them.

Skiathos town is vibrant and good fun. Don't eat on the harbour, restaurants are cheaper and friendlier off the main roads and, unless you really don't like it, it Greek dishes as they cook them really well.

This is a hotel that we would return to but would hope that once you pass reception the rest of the staff have learnt to smile like them.

If you are looking for 5 start hotel and service this is not where you should stay. Facilities and rooms are good and maybe they could reach 4 stars but service is very poor, especially restaurant which is managed by a guy who should be retired long time ago. Food is almost like the one you will get in OMV or Hellenic Gas Station and hence we decided to cancel the dinner after 5 days as we realized that food will not be improved…..also a menu is so poor and so cheap that we were surprised. I would not even dare to give them 3 stars (as several years ago we were in Corsica and Elba in 3 stars hotels and food was magnificent). Not to mention mixing of orders, not returning of half empty/full bottle of wine, serving a plate of food for 4 adults and 3 kids as a desert…….waiting for pancakes for 15 minutes in the morning, and so and so…guys we came to the sea and we would like to taste some fish in 5 star hotel and not PORK. Please have in mind that they have a fresh fish but only if you pay extra on your half board…the same goes for cheese cake…I mean these guys are JOKE
Hence, if you are in Skiathos and you want to stay in this hotel for some creasy reason just take B&B and you will find great food in other restaurants on the beaches and in the city.

Dear VladimirDasic,
Thank you for taking time to post your comment on trip advisor. After having read your review we are really concerned about your comments. In Kassandra Bay Hotel our purpose is to offer the most enjoyable experience to our guests. The hotel has undergone renovations in 2009 adding with the opening of our new wing and renovation of all common areas.
We wish to believe that your comments do have some exaggeration and we are sorry but we do not agree with some them.
Half board is offered on a la carte basis, creating a more caring atmosphere, service wise concerned and keeping quality of food to high standards as food is prepared on the spot in contradiction to traditional buffets. Fresh fish that is sold by the kg cannot be offered at the half board menu. The cost per kg of the fresh fish exceeds the per person cost for the four course half board dinner and is only offered in our a la carte menu in the Almyra restaurant, paid separatrely. The half board menu offers variety of starters, appetizers, main courses and desserts all of which to satisfactory degree of variety and include: seven choices of salads, nine choices of appetizers, six choices of main courses two of which are fish, swordfish and cod fish, also adding some dishes of the day and desserts.
Just need to inform you that we keep half bottles of wine for our guests but if our guests do not mention that they would want their wine for the next day’s dinner it is only natural not to save it for them.
Our restaurant and management team go beyond their way and especially our manager to serve our clients and satisfy their requests.
As far as breakfast is concerned, we strongly believe that the breakfast provides a vast variety of all sorts of food that cover all tastes. An extra thing that we add is action cooking having someone from the kitchen staff preparing crepes at one side of the restaurant. It is only natural and into the common rules of conduct that guests will have to wait in row to be served pancakes that are cooked on the spot. It is always a nice scene seeing small children with their big plates waiting with joy and eager to get the crepe and adding chocolate in! Otherwise we could have prepared them from the kitchen and put them in the platter like all other food offered at the buffet.
We sincerely hope that we have the chance to welcome you to Skiathos and our hotel in the future.

Kind Regards,
Efi Kalaitzidis
