“The perfect place to stay on Skiathos”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

My partner and I have been holidaying in Skiathos for many years and ever since 2003 have always stayed at the Atrium - and wouldn't stay anywhere else!

This unique hotel is perfectly located, built into a hillside above Agia Pareskevi midway down the island, close to two bus stops and an easy walk away from the wide sweep of Platanias beach. Imaginatively built and designed by its architect owners, with stylish and eclectic interiors, the hotel is a perfect home from home. The whole Atrium team are exceptionally welcoming, friendly and efficient - absolutely nothing is too much trouble and guest satisfaction is right at the top of their agenda. We have seen lots of improvements implemented over the years we have been staying there and customer feedback is really listened to and acted upon - for example, having just returned from another perfect 11 night stay, there are lovely new and really comfortable mattresses in the bedrooms this year.

Exceptionally well run, everything is always spotlessly clean and food standards are high with excellent choice. The views are spectacular from all the rooms and public areas, including the beautiful pool area, with its comfortable sun beds and the pool bar close at hand.

I have also stayed at the hotel several times on my own, including this last time, and can recommend it as an excellent choice for any solo traveller, as well as couples or families, because of the friendly, relaxed and easy atmosphere.

It does not suprise me in the least that the Atrium has such a very high percentage of guests who return year after year, some of whom I know have been going for 18 years. If you haven't already been - go!

I always leave with sadness and can't wait to return

As you leave this hotel you undoubtedly leave a piece of your heart there... The people (they are more close to friends then staff) working there don't leave you untouched: it is a perfect mixture of very friendly guys and ladies from all over Europe. The facility is perfectly located on a hill overlooking the Agia Paraskevi beach. It was built by a couple, both architects, so it's no use to discuss the scenery inside the hotel: close to perfection, to say the least. The rooms are greek style, nice, clean, spacious. The food excellent - may it be the buffet breakfast, the quick lunch or the a la carte dinner. What more is there to say? Looking forward to going back...

This is a hotel were guest satisfaction is clearly paramount. It is well managed and kept extremely clean. The food is of a high standard with plenty of choice. We stayed for 10 days in the second half of May and had a wonderful holiday and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel or returning.
There are issues with a hotel constructed over several levels on the side of a hill but these were nullified by the positve aspects of our stay.

Have just returned from a week at the Atrium Hotel. Having seen previous reviews we asked for a room on a higher floor. We were given a room on the lowest floor! But what a relief. The hotel is built into the side of a steep hill and is up a hill from the local tavernas and beach. It was such a relief not to have to tackle the extra stairs or hill to get to the higher floors. Also we had a wonderful view over the bay from a larger than standard balcony and no noise from the pool bar or anywhere else. I would not particularly recommend the hotel for anyone with mobility problems - there are a lot of stairs/steps and a hill to climb before even tackling them.
The hotel has friendly, helpful staff, is very pleasant and very clean. It is centrally located on the island, between bus stops 16 and 17, making it easy to get around. There are 26 bus stops in all and the buses run about every 20 minutes until midnight. It's a short walk to the cluster of Tavernas in Aghia Paraskevi and for those who like to walk, you can easily walk on the tracks up behind the hotel. On that point there is a book available of 25 way-marked walks on the island. (None very long as the island isn't large) On the day we left the hotel obtained some copies, so ask at reception.

What to do on Skiathos? Visit the town; the Evangelistra Monastery (there is a mini bus from the harbour bus stop); take a boat trip; sit on the beach; walk or cycle. From bus stop 23 it is just a 25 minute flat walk through a shady forest to three beautiful northern beaches. Follow the road/track immediately opposite the bus stop.

Stayed at this hotel for my nephews wedding, the hotel it's self is lovely with very helpful staff. Pool was very clean and safe, bar staff a bit slow when ordering food but with only one or two serving its to be expected. The views from the hotel overlooking the sea are stunning, our bedroom had sea views. Rooms were cleaned and towels changed daily which was very impressive as some hotel only change every other day. Bedding was also changed mid week, although I must say the bed was too hard for me( I'm used to a memory foam mattress). The wedding reception was set at the Taverna beside the pool with close resemblance to film Mama Mia's wedding reception with lanterns hanging from trees, beautiful. The walk up to the hotel is not for people with a heart condition, very steep, but keeps you fit !!!!!!! I can honestly say the the holiday was wonderful and would certainly go back to Skiathos again. Thank you Atrium for assisting my nephew with his wedding and making our holiday so relaxing

Room Tip: The higher the number room the better the view. 316, 408 or 201 were all good rooms with views.

The couples getting married were very nice people but when large groups congregate then the atmosphere changes, especially from the first to our second week, and ordinary guests suffer. e.g. on a cold night we dined outside because all the tables had been removed from the restaurant for the reception, the only bar was used for a disco so sleep in our room was impossible until 02:00, even then it was difficult because a drunk next door was vomitting from 03:00. This meant we went out more than we anticipated.

The rooms are located on at least 7 levels on the side of a steep hill and these are connected by stairs and a lift accesses four of them from level 3. Reception is on the 5th floor. The rooms are very clean and functional and gratitude to the hotel for switching on the air con on the 22 May although the brochure detail said it would be 15 June. We were lucky to have temperature up to 32 degrees. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. Nearly all the rooms have superb views.

Rooms lower down suffer from road noise and we moved to a higher room which was much better. Also, noise from adjoing rooms and balconies can be a problem and the balcony of our room did not feel very private as there is just a screen which is 6 inches off the ground and and is not flush with the wall

The beach is 100m if you go through steep scrub and woods which reception warned us as being dangerous so it is 300m down a steep hill then 200m alongside the Princess onto the beach. Non-Princess guests are charged 8 Euros for 2 sunbeds plus a parasol but were given 2 drinks of their choice so it was not too bad. It's a good beach and has a shop and a cafe restaurant. The walk back from the beach is tiring and then access to the hotel is either up 30 or 40 steps to a lift or up the very steep 100m slope to the hotel reception.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and when petals fall off the bouganvillia they are swept up within minutes.
The pool and area is very good but can be taken over by the groups of guests.

The restaurant is about the best in the area and the buffet price of 20 Euros each is sensibly priced to attract you to stay rather than go down the road where there are about 7 tavernas on the main road then quite a few on the "road" which goes inland next to the supermarket. Of the tavernas Jimmys was our favourite - it is owned and run by 2 Greeks so it is a mystery as to why it is called Jimmys.
The balcony areas in the communal rooms are very relaxing and get a nice cool breeze from the sea. As it was early season the indoor bar area was not being used.

We never quite got to grips with Greek wine. In the restaurant you bought bottles at 17 to 25 euros but everywhere else, including the pool bar, you can buy caraffes or bulk wine (lovely name) ranging in price from 6 to 14 euros a litre.

The staff were very friendly, hard working and efficient and gave the place a very Greek atmosphere even though everything seems modern. It's a surprise to know the hotel has been there for 20 years.

One holiday tip is to go on single island tours as the multi island tours mean you spend 4 hours in total on a boat. The church of Mama Mia has to be seen from the land as from a boat all you see is a large rock!

It is a pity the bus service does not stop at the hotel so you have to walk down the hill to get it and of course back up again although you could go up the hill past the hotel and then walk down which though longer is easier.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less road noise
