Skiathos Princess Hotel

Certificate of Excellence

First time visit to Skiathos with good experience of numerous other Greek islands. Also the first visit to Greece during the current economic austerity situation.
20 minutes by taxi from the airport at Ag. Paraskevi, the Skiathos Princess holds itself out as a 5* hotel and one of the best on the small island of Skiathos. First impressions were friendly reception & check in and porters who were extremely helpful & pleasant. A welcome glass of juice was notably absent but may be a result of cost cutting. Our room for a 14 night stay was perfectly ok with good air conditioning and TV plus plenty of wardrobe & storage space which is not always the case.Compared to other 5* hotels in the Greek islands it lacked some of the now more common features such as cd-radio or dvd players Our room was on the first floor overlooking lawned gardens which was ideal for our purposes as there seems little point in a full sea view if we don't spend time on a balcony looking out to sea - we have better things to do !
The room was cleaned daily by friendly staff who visited up to 3 times each day to refresh towels etc & deliver a newsletter which was completely hopeless & frankly a waste. We stayed half board and on each occasion that we used the restaurants the food was adequate & of good quality. The hotel boasts of 3 restaurants, a standard buffet restaurant, a steak bar & a pan Asian restaurant. They are all in the same building separated by curtains. We tried the steak bar twice but did not agree that (whilst drinks prices were somewhat high and equal across all 3 restaurants) there should be surcharges for vegetables which are taken from the same kitchen as the buffet where they are included in the price. 8 Euros extra for a fillet steak was not too unreasonable but the meats in the main buffet were of equal quality. The Asian food - in Greece - was bland and simply undersubscribed. Drinks in the hotel are expensive - typically £5.20 for a large beer & over £8 for a spirit & coke - when there is a bar opposite the hotel where the same drinks cost £3 & £5 but the hotel seem to think that this gives it an air of exclusivity. One night we counted less than 12 people at the bar in a hotel which has 236 bed spaces. They need to consider reducing prices which would keep people in the hotel rather than eatring an evening meal & then walking out the front door. Bottles of wine (a good selection) were roughly UK restaurant prices but could be found much cheaper in nearby tavernas. The one outstanding feature of the restaurants was the staff who were simply excellent. Very attentive & helpful.
The pool & beach facilities were extremely good with the usual free beach towel service & waiter service for drinks if required.
The real down side of this hotel - it is a Mecca for English weddings as well as the odd Greek wedding. There were 6 or 7 weddings during our stay. They usually took place at between 6.00pm and 7.15pm on or near to the beach and whilst it gave the impression of a very nice venue it also had an air of a conveyor belt mentality which also brought with it an influx of guests who were staying elsewhere on the island. We were told that June is heavily booked for weddings and that in September it becomes almost a daily ritual. They didn't interfere too much with our holiday but I wonder why people would want to get married against a backdrop of semi clad people around a swimming pool.
We enjoyed the island - hire a 4x4 for a few days and go off road to some fantastic coves and bays - and we enjoyed the hotel. With a little effort and not much, if any, cost, the hotel could be truly a 5* property. At the time of our stay we would rate it as a 4* at best.

We stayed at the Skiathos princess hotel for 2 weeks in May 2010 and had the most amazing time. We also got married on the beach right by the Skiathos Princess hotel and our day was perfect, Erasmia who works at the hotel helped oraganise and plan our wedding as did Karen our wedding coordinator from Olympic weddings. They made the day go to plan...they were great. The staff at the hotel could not help us enough and were first class when it came to service, the food was excellent with a great variety on offer, fresh flowers everywhere, ZAK our waiter was great, the setting is perfect. The hotel has everything to offer, the facilites were brilliant, although the gym was not the best i have ever seen, it has a limited number of machines but even these are not in good working order. The one thing i would comment on as well was the arrangement for our room upgrade, it was very unclear if we were able to get an upgrade and was very last minute when were told (the day before), but when we did get the upgrade it was perfect....thanks erasmia and everyone at the hotel, thanks to Karen our wedding coordinator. Our family and friends also stayed at the hotel and they all had the best time ever.

thanks to all the staff at the hotel, we hope to see you very soon as will certainly be coming back.

Went to Skiathos Princess for our honeymoon had a pleasant stay but was disappointed with the food and surprised at the bar prices which were overpriced and more then double then the local tavernas, we were on the half board tarif but decided to eat out at the local tavernas as they had proper greek food which we enjoy, we recommend The green Park, Calma and platanias which gave good food and service. The bus service which runs along the road to Skiathos town runs every 20 mins this is a good service. We found the staff at the hotel pleasant and helpful if a little standoffish, we recommend the beach bar for the food but can be slow to be served when they are busy, the sunbeds are comfy but they do rent them out to people outside of the hotel even though they do quote on a notice for hotel use only. The hotel is kept spotless and is fairly quiet with not alot of entertainment, enjoyed it but wouldn't go back.

Look on the website and see for yourself what you see is what you get.
The Manager and all the staff were so friendly and always had time for a chat.
The rooms had lovely decor and were kept wonderfully clean throughout our stay. The Bar staff were great and the food was fabulous. In fact we can't wait to go back.
Thank you to all at the Princess

I have just returned from my holiday on Skiathos at the Princess Hotel. I would just like to say that it is a lovely hotel the Manager and his staff were very friendly and helpful The room was decorated beautifully and very clean. The food was very good and the Hostess, waiters and waitresses did a very good job of looking after you. The location and amenities was ideal and I am returning next year.

We have been to this hotel before, usually with our two young children in July, enjoying the family friendly atmosphere and excellent staff to accommodate our needs. This time we chose a quieter month, during the May half term. What a refreshing thing to see the children for once trying different food in the Grill and the fish taverna. We tried to avoid the one with a group of doctors as it got too busy, but still it felt great to see that it was lively even in May. I thought it was a bit unfair the comment I read from another guest staying probably at the same time (since he is referring to the same group in his comments) to suggest that other guests would destroy this great location next to this sandy beach, and great staff and clean rooms. I have visited other 5 star hotels full of other nationalities, which was an eye opener indeed about their culture (that is why we travel after all) but still nothing to do with the hotel or its staff. Why spoil your great holidays? Anyway, I am definitely booking again! next year.
