Description: The White Horse Inn is situated in the beautiful village of Ampleforth, North Yorkshire which is the gateway to many fabulous walks and Ampleforth College.Pete and Nikki offer you a warm welcome to their 18th century traditional country inn which dates back to 1768. Its charming cosy rooms with log fires, oak beamed ceilings, flagstone floors, candlelit tables and a warm friendly atmosphere make it the perfect place to relax and unwind. We offer traditional hand pulled beers and fine wines by the glass. Our great local characters, not only give the inn that 'traditional proper pub' feel, but also have a wealth of knowledge about the history of the pub and the area, which they regularly share with our visitors. Our food is locally sourced, freshly prepared and cooked to order

“A great night out”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

We chose the White Horse for a family night out and from the moment we walked in, we felt warmly welcomed. There was a fantastic atmosphere where locals were clearly having a good time. The log fires and candles made for a lovely ambience and the food was first class and really good value-particularly the steak and ale pie and the creme brulee. Plenty of games for the kids and an excellent pint of Black sheep. The whole evening was made even better by friendly and attentive staff.

Overall, a brilliant evening in a traditional and lively country pub.

“A little gem in the National Park”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

The White Horse in Ampleforth sits just inside the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It is one of the few remaining examples of a real pub and has become the hub of the village. The fact that the locals gather here to “put the world to rights” speaks volume.
A visit to the White Horse will be rewarding; Nicki will charm you and Pete will feed you. Nicki will offer you a range of hand-pulled beers including a regularly changing range of guests. Most of the guest beers are from small breweries in Yorkshire; you have not lived until you have sampled Wold Gold and Angler’s Reward, to say nothing of Farmer’s Blonde. A good range of white and red wines are available by the glass.
All this can be enjoyed by the warmth of a real fire which adds to the ambience of this little gem of a pub.
The board over the fireplace will tantalise you with the list of Pete’s culinary offerings. All are based on local ingredients and are cooked from fresh and to order. Pete’s fish pie is fast becoming a legend in the area and it is worth a very long journey to sample his home made cheese cake. Be late at your peril; it will all be gone! I would strongly advise you to book.
Husband and wife team Pete and Nicki have dedicated themselves to offering an experience that is so hard to find these days. This is a friendly, welcoming pub that provides excellent food alongside very well kept beer.
You would be very foolish not to visit “The Horse” if you are in the area. You would be crazy to miss out if you live nearby.
Lean on the bar or sit quietly in the corner and you might even pick up a few village secrets. By the way, Timothy Taylor’s bitter is very good for loosening local tongues – they have the good fortune to be able to walk home!!
