We had to make a visit to North Yorkshire at very short notice and soon ran into trouble since York Races were about to get under-way and had caused a shortage of good quality accommodation for miles around the course. Luck was on our side, however, as we came across the Carr House web site which included a massive amount of detail about what proved to be one of the loveliest places in which we have ever stayed! Anna and her husband, Jack, could not have done more to spoil us during the four days which we enjoyed in their magical home. The bedroom was almost unreal in that it was beautifully furnished, warm (the outside temperature was in the region of 7℃), and so quiet that we heard little more than bird-song and the rustle of branches as squirrels hurled themselves from tree to tree. The en-suite bathroom was perfect (with a plentiful supply of really hot water, huge towels, super-quality soap, shampoo and other goodies) while, in the bedroom, there was a trolley bearing a tea pot, cups, saucers, mugs, cutlery, plates and, to our great surprise, some of Anna's delicious cakes which were always waiting to be eaten when we returned after exploring the surrounding countryside. Breakfast was incredible and we ate far more than was necessarily good for us since we couldn't resist the good things which were offered to us. Whenever we asked for information about a place which we were thinking of visiting, Anna and Jack helped us and, more often than not, offered us a voucher (supplied by them) to reduce the cost of entry. How fortunate we were! All in all, we had a break which was like no other so we can hardly wait to return. Thank you - so much - to our delightful hosts!!!

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Carr House Farm and i just wanted to say a big thank you to Anna for making us feel so welcome. The room was clean and warm and the bed was very comfortable. They had tea and coffe making facilities in the room and the views across the countryside were spectacular. It's about a mile to Ampleforth and the same distance to Wass.. we ate at The White Swan in Ampleforth on the first night after a recommendation from Anna and the food was excellent. The second night we drove through to Helmsley and had a walk round the village and ate at The Feathers, again the food was excellent. The breakfast at Carr House Farm was also excellent, with lots of variety and all the food was fresh. Anna served us with some lovely pastries and even gave us some energy biscuits for our mountain biking in Dalby Forest on the saturday.
All in all very enjoyable weekend and we will definitely be going back.. Thank you for the lovely cherry scones for the journey home.. that gesture just about sums up the experience of staying at Carr House Farm..

Lovely B and B in a beautiful location, although I don't think the room we stayed in (upstairs in the main house) was up to 5 stars. Very clean bedroom, but the canister holding the sugar was filled with a grubby bag of sugar which had obviously had lots of dirty spoons dipped into it in the past. The coffee canister was also filled with congealed coffee powder. Having read the other reviews, possibly the outside, downstairs rooms are of a higher standard.
Breakfast was good, but having stayed in a lot of B and Bs, was not oustanding. We were asked what we wanted to have the night before (including drinks), and weren't asked how we wanted our eggs, which I had assumed we would be asked in the morning (we weren't). Breakfast happened very quickly, with no choice of start time (8.30am was the time given).
Anna was a lovely hostess, very friendly and accommodating.
The main reason why this review isn't a 5 star is because of the standard of the breakfast and the cleanliness of the drink facilities in the room.

We stayed at Carr house while we attended a wedding in the village and had an absolutely fantastic time. From the friendly welcome (even though we didn't arrive until 10pm) to the excellent breakfast and near constant supply of baked goodies (thank you Anna!) we simply couldn't fault the place. We had the lovely downstairs room with the four poster bed and red hangings. Never imagined this kind of quality when we booked just looking for a bed for a couple of nights to go to a friend's wedding. Already booked in for June as a treat for my parents, will hopefully come back again and again. thank you again Anna and Jack!

Room Tip: Our ground floor room was lovely, and very quiet, but the others look rather impressive too!

My husband and I regularly stay in farm b&b's, as we live in the city and enjoy getting away from the hum drum. I have to say Carr's House Farm B&B is the best that we have ever stayed in! We arrived quite late on a Friday night and Anna was most welcoming. Our room was genuinely quaint and really pretty. Four poster bed. There were homemade cakes greeting us in the room, and we we're impressed with the tea coffee selection. I had not been feeling too well and Anna had been thoughtful enough to prepare a hot water bottle for me and some scented aromatherapy. Very impressed. The breakfast was divine! Being veggie I received an exciting breakfast including cheese scones. My favourite had to be the hot apples on the second morning. The breakfast room itself is a delight. With a beautiful burner/fire and original period features. Anna was also helpful in recommending local sights and she booked a restaurant for us.
With such warmth, beauty, kindness and charm that this b&b has to offer my only issue is it will be difficult for other b&b's that we stay in to live up to this standard!
