We arrived in the night, the location was hard to find at that time, the facilities are basic and a bit overpriced, especially for we had to pay $2 for the hot water for shower. But the surrounding, the beautiful scenery, peaceful, and the experience are priceless..

We arrived to an efficient welcome and as it was the end of the day and pouring with rain we felt we had to stay. Two of us choose the Cabin which is VERY basic with a double bed, very thin mean pillows, a tatty couch and a small bedside table and underpowered lamp...that is it. The "facilities" were a march up the hill and adequate but an addtional $2 for a shower. My main concern is the pricing...$80 for the cabin PLUS $5 for a blanket, no sheets etc, with two of us tht made our stay $90. This is simply poor value for basic accomodation and had the other sites nearby been open we would have gone to them instead. On the other hand the location is terrific.

Room Tip: None of the rooms are worth the money but other than that they are much the same.

We stayed in one of the tent sites here and were greeted by a variety of different animals! (Two horses, sheep, and baby peacocks!). The tent sites were very well maintained, as were the rest of the facilities. They even had a fully enclosed kitchen for everyone to use, which was definitely an added perk as we were tired of eating peanut butter sandwiches 24/7. If you plan on going to Wharariki Beach, you should definitely stay here for a night! And if you like stars, you're in for a treat!

I love this camp site. It is about an hours drive from Collingswood, located near Wharariki Beach and Farewell Spit. It is a very basic campsite with powered sites, some unpowered sites and a couple of cabins. There is a large kitchen dinner, seating outside to enjoy the views, a washing machine, a washing line, a couple of showers (which you have to pay for) and some long drop toilets. There is also a small play park.

The owner is a great guy, he told us about all the different walks, the best times to see the sun set and rise. There are also 2 horses that just wonder around, some chickens and a couple of peacocks.

There are many different walks to do around here. We did two of the walks, once was about an hour return (can be longer if the tide is right), which goes through fields of sheep and comes out on rocks where you can walk back to the campsite along the beach. The other walk is about 20 minutes one way which comes out next to some massive sand dunes and a great big beach. Where if you are lucky seals sleep and seal pups play. The owner has maps of the walks in the office.

There is no dump station or any shops near by so make sure your camper vans waste is empty and you are stocked up on food and water. The owner did offer us water to fill up arr water supplies.

I will be staying here again as it is a great place to get away from the crowds and to just relax on a empty beach. You could also clearly see the stars at night.

A fantastic part of the country. Wharariki beach is second to none so far as a rugged spectacle. The camp unfortunately has a lot to be desired. Very cramped sites is such an open space - why? I can understand the eco site 'tag' (long drops and water conservation etc) however it seems to me this was just and excuse for not wanting to dispose of customers rubbish, as you are requested to take all rubbish with you when you vacate. We had loud music playing from the owners house until 3-4am - kept us and the kids awake. Would have stayed another night if it wasn’t for the music. The peacocks roaming about were very nice. Quite expensive as mentioned by others - $5 to use the washing machine and $2 a shower, hmmm.
