Owner description: Walk NZ’s longest swingbridge before taking part in a range of activities from high speed flying-fox rides and jet boating to more leisurely strolls along the Faultline loop walk to view some of the site’s fascinating geological and historical features. The loop walk, for instance, encompasses the famous White’s Creek Faultine, - epicentre of the 1929 Murchison earthquake, where the ground rose 4.5m (15ft), historical goldworkings and the chance to look for gold on the river banks. The flying fox is suitable for all ages whilst the jetboating is one of the best runs in NZ.

Other posts are on point...this is a tired "attraction." The most interesting part were the photos taken when the river flooded in 2010. Evidently the river was even higher in July 2012, but no pictures of that.

I agree with other posts that this is a good place to break up the drive but it is tired and needs some work done on it. Has potential to be really interesting but tired and dated at present. For $5 was ok, but don't expect too much!

We stopped at Buller Gorge where the longest swing bridge in New Zealand is. Once over the bridge you are supposed to be able to see the 1929 fault line. We paid our $5 each to cross the swing bridge which was fun. Sadly that's where the fun ended. The fault line could not be seen, all the information signs were ancient, and so old that you couldn't read what was on them. There's a post where the height of the 1998 flood has been marked with a plaque. There have been 4 other floods since - all higher and just marked with white paint. The whole placed was in dire need of some TLC.

The Buller Gorge Swingbridge is about 14km from Murchison en route to Westport. The bridge is about 110metres long and about 17 metres above the Buller River. At the far end of the bridge you can do a short walk (not really suitable for those who find unfenced narrow paths or steps difficult) through old gold workings, evidence of a major 1929 earthquake, and a miner's hut.
There are also longer walks, a jet boat ride, and super-exciting high speed "comet ride" back across the river (extra cost and expensive, but the teens and kids loved it).
Crossing the swingbridge cost $NZ5, so a worthwhile and cheap "to-do" stop on your way along Highway 6.
For $5, why not rated "excellent"? There are several information signs around the loop, but they are in need of significant repair as the pictures and text are quite faded, and a couple of short handrails on the steepest/narrowest parts of the 15 minute walk loop would be helpful.

I admit we didn't do the jetboat ride. That was because we were a bit disappointed by the "longest swing bridge in New Zealand". Not that big of a thrill, and yes, it was only $5 NZ. It was fun going across the bridge, and taking a few of the walks. Some interesting history about the mining and seismic activity in the area. We also passed on the zip line which essentially covers the same distance as a bridge, as the cost posted at the time was $30 NZ, which seemed a bit steep. Would I stop again? Probably not.
