We first went to Lane's last Autumn to celebrate my husband's birthday. This place is a real find. It feels upmarket with it's spacious interior, big bar area and lovely setting. However it is down to earth, family run and friendly. The menu is good and serves up traditional food well. The choice is good. Portion sizes are fair and a three course meal leaves you feeling satisfied and yet not too full. The food is presented well and prices are very reasonable. Our last meal was to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had 3 courses each, pre dinner drinks and wine with our meal and it came in at £80 which is really good value. Starters and puddings are about £5 and mains come in at £10-£15 which is superb value. Wine isn't expensive and you can get a decent bottle for well under £20. The dining room is spacious and even when quiet has a good atmosphere. The place feels special and smart yet relaxed and appears to cater for all ages. The staff are really pleasant and efficient. They keep and eye on you but are not intrusive. The restaurant is part of a hotel so after dinner you can stroll in the lovely gardens or play pool or just sit in the big lounge and read or chat. The bottom line is that Lane's offers a really good dining experience on many levels: These are the prices, choice of food, quality and presentation of food, service and setting. The only disappointing meal we've ever had was a Sunday lunch when service was a bit slow. Evenings however have always been superb. It's a great place for a quiet meal or a larger celebration and great to have on our doorstep.
