We went ther for a weekend, and it was great.. It was really beautifull, and nice.. the food was great.. the drinks and service was okay, but I wouldn't be too hard, because there's volunteers working there.. it's easy to make mistakes.. so don't think about that.. the atmosphere and the place itself was great.. I love it!

Although, one must take a bus, boat and then horse carriage to get to the Surfing Turtle Lodge, it's totally worth it and half the fun. Once you're there, you'll feel like you have the island to yourself. Walking down the beach, I felt alone and at peace. On the other hand, Saturday night was a big party, full of dancing, chillin by the bonfire and lots of crazy fun. The weekends are definitely more hopping so you can have some fun at night and relax, surf, play beach volleyball or whatever you want during the day. Don't miss this little gem while you're visiting Leon. Skip the beaches in Peñitas and travel a little further to Poneloya and Surfing Turtle. You won't regret that you did!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are beachfront so you can't really go wrong!

Surfing Turtle Lodge is a place to relax. If you are staying in Leon you can catch a bus to Poneloya, then you get a boat to Poneloya beach. Call the surfing Turtle lodge before you come they will arrange you a horse carriage to get you to the hostel. The waves are good for surfing. The dorm overlooks the ocean and the food is good ! They have cabins for couples too I

Room Tip: choose the beds that overlooks the ocean !

This is a great place to take it easy and relax. The food was very good. The place was very quiet. However, the beach was notgreat for swimming (too much waves). I knew the electricity was solar, but I expected to have more than 1 hour a day (6:30 PM - 7:30 PM).

Cabana #2 was our home for 1 week at STL. It was very relaxing and quiet- the perfect spot to run away to!

The cabana was clean and comfortable. The staff are amazing! They will do anything they can to make your stay more comfortable. We were picked up ontime at the airport and always had a ride waiting for us on the beach when we needed one. They helped us book a day volcano boarding and arranged for us to get to the airport on time. The food was hot and fresh, I think we ate better on the island then we do at home!

You cannot ask for a better location and a more fun crowd. The fact that you have to catch the boat across, and hike into the lodge makes your stay so much cooler if you're into a little adventure. Everyone is so friendly! This kind of place attracts some pretty cool travelers to spend some time with! We will definitely go back again next time we are in Nicaragua!

A great place to go to relax. Not much to do unless you're with a group of friends. Food is mediocre, price is a little high for what you get. No Internet and only a couple hours of electricity. No turtles in July. You get a pleasant horse and buggy ride when you're picked up from the boat. When you get to the beach, you will probably be the only one there and the waves are perfect. I probably wouldn't go back again unless I was going with a group, but I was glad I went. Paid $25USD for the private room which was connected to the dorms with an open ceiling (aka loud) and the only door to the room was a screen one, so minimal privacy.

The location is wonderful. There's hardly any other buildings on the beach for miles in either direction. Rooms seemed clean enough. Dorm beds were $10, breakfast was 80 cordoba and lunch/dinner were 100-200 cordoba, which is expensive by NIcaraguan standards. The place is located directly on the beach, has swinging benches at the bar and plenty of spots to hang out during the day. We made a fire by the beach, watched the stars and listened to the surf crashing thirty feet from us. I wouldn't suggest spending more than 2 nights here as there is not much to do, but it was one of the best places we've stayed in Nicaragua so far, soo relaxing and enjoyable! Highly recommend it!
