Lake Roxburgh Lodge & Restaurant
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We found this lodge through another hotel in Cromwell that was fully booked. We wouldn't have even known about it otherwise. We were very impressed when we entered the gates and saw the lodge which was well presented. We had a friendly welcome (thanks Phil) and shown to our room and we were very happy with the very nice accommodation. We spent the evening on our own patio through the French Doors of our room (nice), enjoying the secluded, quiet and peaceful surroundings. In the morning, Kim cooked us a fabulous breakfast which was very affordable and yum! We loved our short stay and would recommend this Lodge to anyone.

We had a lovely stay at Lake Roxburgh Lodge, peaceful location. We stayed in Room 3 - well appointed, comfortable beds - lovely and clean. This is a two bedroom unit with a small lounge area which has double doors out onto a private patio. Lake Roxburgh Lodge is set in a large park like setting. Thanks Kim and Phil for your hospitality, fine food, good company and local knowledge. This is an ideal location if you are thinking of fly fishing at Lake Onslow. Don't want to tell to many people about Lake Onslow - one of the world best kept secrets. And we even caught fish!

After a long hot day on bicycles, our group arrived in ones and twos at this oasis, to be greeted by our helpful hosts, Kim and Phil. Nothing was a bother, the standard of the food was as good or better than top restaurants in the city, and everything was clean and comfortable. One interesting fact I leaned was that the dining table and chairs, made from NZ native timber, Rimu, was all recycled from the renovation work Kim and Phil have done on the lodge rooms over the years. Phil could tell you were every stick of wood in the chairs came from, a great way to recycle this beautiful timber.

Room Tip: Room 1 was perfect, very private and has its own outside deck area

We enjoyed the friendly service and company of the fellow travellers in the fine Restaurant at the place with good music and food. The accomodation is superb and of a high quality. The spa was soothing and very well maintained. The only thing that was missing (although one should stay away from this on a holiday) was an internet connection in the room. It was available though in the Restaurant.

And too close to the power station. Hum kept one of us awake. But such lovely hosts. And lovely walks in area. Lounge furniture outdoor cane which was not comfortable for the price. I think a cheaper rate is warranted.

This is a place I always drive past on my way to or from Dunedin. Today I was hungry enough to finally cross that bridge and have lunch. I am very happy that I did! The food was delicious and prepared with love. Everything was very fresh and nicely presented. The place was very clean and welcoming and the hosts very friendly. I will definitely not just drive past anymore!
