This trip from Puerto Villamil in Isabela island is a true paradise. The landscape is incredible, wanderful, it seems to be in a place out of the world!
The variety of animals that we could see from the boat and expecially during snorkeling was superb! It's definetly a must during a Galapagos journey!

In the tour "Humedales" that the agency Scuba Galapagos arranged for us was my favorite tour of the trip.
We visit a los of places one and this places where the landscapes that i like the most of the trips... but the best part of it was that our Guide, Lucho, a super nice and friendly "señor" born on the island, he explained the history of the island and his personal experience as a child when Isabela where still a prision.
When we where on the road he asked if we wanted to eat passion fruit, he pulled over and toke a few of a tree that was on the way ...
My husband had never seen the fruit and eat it directly (only juice) that experience we will allways remember, and Lucho!

Los Tuneles are a 45 speedboat ride from the Harbor on Isabela. The total trip was about four hours with a small snack provided. On the way to Los Tuneles, or captain was very receptive to stopping and showing unique sites. The mating turtles (in Feb.) were outstanding. stops enroute lasted as long as anyone wanted to photograph.

On reaching Los Tuneles, we floated gently amongst the lava mazes for a half an hour or more. It was other worldly. The lava outcroppings were formed when lava passing through the area hardened at different speeds, leaving behind outcroppings and arches of lava. At some points, the boat passed through passages so shallow that the captain had to lift his engines and move it through by hand.

After cruising amongst the lava outcroppings, the boat anchored, and got to walk on top of these rocks. Bring decent walking shoes, and footing can be unstable, and the only things to grab onto are cactus. Ouch.

Finally, the boat were taken to a place to snorkel, and here I saw some of the first corals, soft blue and orange, that I had see in the Galapagos. There was a lot of fish life, and many nooks and crannies to investigate. The water is shallow, so modest surface dives are all that is needed to see everything.

At a second snorkeling site we were told there would be sea horses and white tipped sharks. None of the group saw any. Not as interesting as the first site. In all, there was probably a couple of hours in the water. Bring good sun screen. You will need it. Better yet, loose shirts and pants to wear in the water.

Though it would have been nice to see the sharks, I still give this tour a 5 star rating. The trip was arranged by the downtown dive shop through the Hotel, Sula Sula, which I would rank high for the budget traveler.
Since you will be sending 4-5 hours out, make sure to bring additional snacks, water, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and anything else you need to make yourself comfortable for this period of time. The cost was $60 each for five on the boat.
