The Blue Sky Resort Koh Payam
Ranked #1 of 8 Ko Phayam B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 20, 2013

The resort is billed as maldives in Thailand, but certainly does not mean clear fresh waters. It means that the hotel huts are built on stilts above a swamp. This swamp is only filled with water at high tide, which is about 4 hours in a day. Staff work one shift and get tired in the evening. Bar was not manned, and too close to restaurant. No buffet breakfast. I expected more for the price I was paying.

This island resort was picture perfect! Getting to and from the resort was easy by speed boat, not to mention the resort meets and greets you at the dock. The service on the mainland and the island was extremely impressive. The rooms and property very clean! I should have booked an entire week here! Had the entire beach to ourselves and a nice beachside bungalow. Downside, no credit cards, carry enough cash for your food and beverages! Come here for rest and relaxation! Recommend renting a scooter to go see the rest of the small island, go out eat great local Thai food on Koh Payam!

I had been planning to stay here over a year and finally stayed here in August 2011.

The resort location is super fantastic on the less touchable island "Koh Payam" of Narong province. I was motivated going there by beautiful photos taken there and forwarded to my by a friend of mine.

Once I arrived at the resort, I felt a bit disappointing that villas there were not surrounded by
the water/ocean like Maldives as what I perceived from those photos. Most part of the resort was dry and could only be seen the ground & clay. I was informed by the staff that the villas will be surrounded by water 2 days pre & post of the full moon day in a month i.e., if the full moon day is on 15th Mar so you should book 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.

A villas itself is new and very nice and well equipped by good facilities and amenities.
However, the service and resort facilities are quite limited. There is no many you can do in a day. It is perfect for those who want to get away for chaotic and hiding themselves.

The resort did not open for dinner, so you need to find it in the village and along the beach.
There are quite a few seafood/local nice restaurant within walking distance.

The breakfast is very very limited as the price I paid for Thb 4,000.-net per night.
It's not served buffet style, even asking for refilling for small amount I would not dare to since the staff were not willing to even ask me on this. It's not a big deal but this area can be improved to narrow guest satisfaction gap. I mentioned this after I came back to the sales person then they gone silent :). If putting the fantastic location beside, the value for money is quite poor.

The room rates displayed on the website was not consistent with the sales person after I emailed them to book a villa. Absolutely, it was more than what on their website.

There are many beautiful places on the island, you have to rent a motorbike bringing
yourself around since there was not public transportation available. On a day with nice weather you can also get a tour package that they will take to around for activities like
snorkeling etc.

Finally, just to shortly say that the resort location is super super and there are lot of potential resources there just better management is required.

One time in your life, you should go there !!

Room Tip: "Villas nearer the lobby the better"

We discovered a gem of Ranong, the Blue Sky Resort, Koh Payam. Pity that we can only visit the place in high season. Koh Payam is part of Ranong province. Ranong is well known to Thai people as 8 rain 4 sun (ฝนแปดแดดสี่ = 8 months of rain and 4 months of sun.) We were lucky enough to get to Thailand around the time that we can visit the place.
We bought a package deal from the resort; great 8 meals, a return trip on speed boat from mainland to the island, bicycle, canoe and two nights in a beautiful hut. The room can accommodate four people comfortably. Well, three of us were happy with our room. We were staying at zone R which is the must. We can just hang our feet when high tides.
The resort staffs are very friendly, very nice and very helpful. They are the best!
We would recommend very one to visit the place. It would be great for honeymooners or anyone who just want to relax.

Room Tip: Zone R is best

There are more than one places that refer to themselves as "resorts", but apparently a very loose term in Thailand.

Blue Sky seems to be only accommodation offering a true resort experience:

Fine seafood dining overlooking the ocean
Nicely appointed bungalos in a beautiful setting
Golf cart shutting to/from the pier to the resort

Really it's just the look of the bungalows that set it apart from the rest. They aren't cheap, not by any standard, but if you are looking for a peaceful, luxury style getaway from all the people in Phuket/Samui/etc, this is the place.

One note and why they are four star... they charge guests for the towels they borrow to use on the beach. Also, when we returned two of them wet from the ocean water, they complained that they should not have ocean water on them... I'll leave it to you to decide what's wrong about these two statements.
