Family of ten went for Sunday lunch, ate far, far too much but had a wonderful time!

The traditional Sunday roasts (we had beef, chicken and pork belly in our order) are tasty and well prepared, the fish dishes inventive and delicious and the kids’ meals were not compromised in terms of quality. Portions were huge so dial back on the starters!

Overall the food would score 5, the point was dropped for service but that’s nitpicking really as it was so busy.

Would definitely go again.

I have reviewed The Nelson before however, after visiting again last night I have to review again!! The pub has separated from it's company and this was the best food I have eaten from there. As a new coeliac I had to order from the gluten free menu which had good choice and they had gluten free bread! The menu was slightly different than before and the wine list was bigger; we had an outstanding Rose. I chose the seabass with hisbi cabbage and salsa verde. The fish was the best I have had all year and the cabbage was surprisingly tasty with a confident char and the oily salsa verde. As usual service was spot on. Nothing more to be said it was a perfect meal.

We live locally in Nottingham and the Lord Nelson is always a favourite for us. There are other pubs that serve good food in the area, although it is always guaranteed at the Nelson. All the food is locally sourced wherever possible.

Dean and his staff are fantastically welcoming and always have time for a short chat whilst ensuring that you are happy with the food that has been served.

The pub itself is full of character and has a large beer garden and decent car park. It’s next to the River Trent so nice for a summer stroll after a meal or in winter its always warm next to the open log fire.

A must if you are visiting the area.
