We stayed two nights at the San Nicolas for an awesome wedding at the nearby Drago Castillo. The SN is a large faux-old Spanish courtyard hotel , doubling as a spa. Be sure to have your written confirmation with you. English…she not so good! Expect to see plenty of little old ladies padding around in dressing gowns going for treatment. A hoot. The rooms are clean, large and well fitted, and the beds comfortable. Expect a little air-con and minibar noise. Room charge is per person not per room, good value though. Breakfast is continental+. Be ready with your room number and expect to sit at the window tables. The view is worth it. Overall it is a reasonable, good value, stop- over hotel. I looked at their website after our visit. Had I done so before, I would have thought I was at a completely different hotel. Do not expect much from the little town, except busy bars and tapas cafes. Walk up to the little church and the restaurant La Nina serves excellent tapas. Note this is old Spain: no eye contact with outsiders, little English spoken, occasionally brusque, but also helpful if you ask nicely, with a smile and a thank you. Finally, drive only on the outside of town. The hotel is easily seen from the main road. The inner town is a maze of tiny one-way streets waiting to embarrass you. You have been warned.
