Malinalco archeological site is small compared to Teotihuacan. You have to walk about 10 minutes hiking rock stairs to get to the middle of the hill where the archeoligical site is located. Malinalco has 3 big pyramids and some ruins around. From the top of one of the big pyramids you have a very nice view of the town. Take the guided tour. It deserves the stairs climbing!

The entrance to this site was slightly hidden but the locals were happy to direct us in order to find it. The stone walkway up the mountain is well maintained but it takes some energy to get to the top if you are not used to doing a lot of uphill walking. There are quite a few really fantastic vantage points on the way up that will offer you some glorious pictures of the overall area. Once you reach the actual temple site you will find a structure that seems carved from the mountain itself. A wooden stair and platform have been erected to allow you a good peek into the temple itself. Be sure to ascend the stone platform if you want an excellent view of the entire temple structure. Take time to walk around the area and explore as there are plenty of nooks and crannies to discover and a nice cleared area where you can get some creative photos of the town below. This is not a large site but it is certainly worth the visit if you are in the area. Be sure to visit the restrooms at the entrance at the foot of the mountain as there are no facilities once you reach the top. I also recommend bringing some hydration and a small snack if you are prone to getting hungry when you take long uphill walks. If the weather is cool, keep in mind that it might get a little breezy as you climb higher and a jacket might come in handy.
