“One in a million....”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

Au Cheval Blanc is our local restaurant and we could not live without it! It has it all. Good value menus, especially at lunch for only 13 Euro, 3 dishes with wine. Now where do you find that? In the evening it is 15 euro without wine...Still great value. Friendly service and quick, amazing as they are only two to serve. The food is always served on very hot plates, so watch out! The food is always prepared from fresh produces, and of good quality.....Try, you will not regret it!

“Lovely atmosphere, good food, excellent value”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

The rather vivid neon lighting makes this restaurant stand out after dark in a rather nondescript village street, and you might wonder if it's just a roadhouse. It isn't. A little way inland from the high-season hurly-burly of the Cote Landaise, this is an oasis of calm and good value, with fresh, delicious food. It is a family concern, not so very long established, and making its mark with enterprise, good cooking, locally sourced food and helpful, friendly service.
Many French restaurants serve an inexpensive menu only at selected lunchtimes, but the Cheval Blanc always has a good choice of options that won't break the bank, even in the evenings and at weekends, as well as more ambitious offerings for special occasions. The tables are nicely spaced (there is also a pleasant terrace) and the whole atmosphere is relaxing, even when the place is busy. There is a good, sensibly priced wine list including a number of interesting possibilities from that corner of France.
There is plenty of on-site parking. If you are finding Capbreton or Hossegor congested, or want a break from the campsite, escape to Tosse. This outfit is already popular with French clients and deserves its success.

“If you look for genuine local dishes with very good products, this is the place”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

For three years now, we have been spending our summer vacation in a nearby town.
We have tested many restaurants and only liked a few.
Three weeks ago, we met a couple who had had dinner at Cheval Blanc and who recommended this place.
We went there for dinner.
First good thing : a private, roomy parking.
The restaurant is medium in size but there is a nice terrace outside.
The decoration is simple, not sophisticated.
There is quite a choice of preparations proposed. Many are based on the local famous products : foie-gras (goose or duck liver) as weel as several other dishes duck based.
The quality and the freshness of the ingredients is remarquable.
There is a really cheap menu (15 euro) that many people at other tables had chosen. They all seemed happy with their meal.
Based on the recommendation we had received, we opted for the "Assiette regionale" (18 euro)
that includes a variety of local specialities mainly but not limited to duck. A bowl of French fries is part of the dish.
It is so large a dish, you should NOT take any appetiser before this assiette.
Maybe some fresh fruit afterwards.
We drank red house wine (served chilled). Pleasant and well matched to the food.
Service is friendly and efficient.
All in all, a restaurant that is not pretentious at all, with very good traditional local food.
We have already decided to go back there next year.
