staying here is a real treat .We have stayed 3 times now and each time has been lovely .The dinners are very convivial and Jacqui is a superb hostess and runs the place beautifully. Wilfred gives very informative talks about their vineyard with wine-tastings.The surrounding country-side is magnificent and the house very comfy with lovely rooms, it is one of our favourite places to stay on our trips up and down France.

We stayed at this chateau in August 2011 for 4 nights (Iris room). The description in the Sawdays book is spot on. Our stay was very enjoyable and Jacqui and Wilfred were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. We had an introduction to the vineyard and on 2 evenings a dinner party on the terrace with other guests which was great and not to be missed. The chateau is set in lovely gardens and is very peaceful. The swimming pool is of a good size given the fact that the chateau has only a few rooms for guests. Breakfast wasn't as fullsome as some other places we have stayed but was acceptable

Room Tip: Read the web site which is very accurate

Jacqui was a super hostess and it is rare to see someone work so hard to ensure all her guests have a good time.

Our room was lovely, especially the bathroom which was huge! The views were stunning as we overlooked the terrace and countryside beyond.

If you stay, do take advantage of the dinner parties where all the guests sit together and enjoy a delicious supper cooked by Jacqui. We were fortunate to meet other guests who were superb fun!

Only breakfast let them down. No yoghurt (someone forgot to prepare it) and on the first morning it was very basic and seemed an effort to get orange juice to appear! H

We enjoyed our stay here, the chateau is lovely and the location superb. The owners are very nice and you are made to feel welcome. There is a decent pool with comfy sunloungers which we happily lounged around one afternoon. We did, however, get the feeling that the owners were rather fed up with running a B&B and didnt go the extra mile to make it feel a special stay. Breakfast was poor (frozen croissants and just bread and cereal on offer - although the homemade jams were nice). We would have expected a decent croissant at least for the price and given we were in France after all! The evening meal was very nice, however there was no flexibility at all as to what you had and what time - if you wanted an evening meal it was the full 3 courses or nothing. I appreciate that it is common to have a set meal with one sitting, however, many B&Bs we have stayed in in France and Italy have offered a cheese and bread option for guests who just want a light snack and not the full monty - this is easy for the hosts and can go a long way in creating goodwill with the guests. On the flip side, they dont seem to mind you bringing your own snacks so I guess you just need to bear this in mind when planning your meals etc. The chateau has an excellent vinyard, however a bottle of red wine which costs €12 from their shop (and is delicious), costs €20 at dinner - this seemed a bit uneccessary and had we realised this we would have bought one earlier in the day from them and taken it with us to dinner rather than pay the premium for simply ordering it at the table. Rooms are good, but verging on the tired side. We did enjoy our stay, but probably wouldnt go back as we were slightly made to feel like annoying children!

Just outside of the overpriced St Emilion this chateau provided great homemade food and wine. We just stopped by for dinner and a tasting and were welcomed by the owners. They did kind of stick us out in the sun room because their dining room was full with guests who were staying there at the time so we did feel a little alienated but they were very friendly and attentive, and Jaquie was an excellent chef. Definitely worth visiting for a completely different view of the wine culture than you will find in St Emilion or Bordeax.

Chateau Carbonneau is exactly as advertised – a beautiful, family run chateau and winery in the heart of Bordeaux wine country. Jacquie and Wilfred do a great job of combining elegance, simplicity, and friendliness in their lovely home. My 21 year old daughter and I stayed in La Pivione and the room was perfect – all the rooms are as quaint and pretty as the pictures on the website! Jacquie is a wonderful cook and gracious hostess. We really enjoyed touring the vineyard with Wilfred to learn about and taste the wine made right at the chateau. St. Emilion or Bordeaux are easy day trips from the chateau. We were very glad to have a car – it increased our independence and ability to explore the somewhat remote area. Definitely would recommend staying here

The atmosphere in Chateau Carbonneau is so welcoming; I could not help but feel at home. The owners and staff are very personable, fun, and extremely dedicated to making your stay the best it can be. In addition, the dinner was THE BEST I have had during my time in France. Delicious!! Finally, the chateau is gorgeous. The rooms are amazingly beautiful and the views are spectacular. Every morning I could not wait to open my windows and let the sun into my room and look down to see breakfast served on the deck. I recommend that you visit this amazing home. You will not regret it!
