“A beautiful peaceful haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012

Leading up to our stay at L’autre Vie, I had that pleasant feeling of anticipating something good. And it was so, very good. After discovering this self-categorized boutique hotel/B&B on Google, it was immediately included into our 4 week holiday. We chose the “Sydney room” and were not disappointed. I think it is their smallest room but still the biggest experienced in Europe!

L’autre Vie is relatively new, only in its first year of business. The hosts Vanessa and Justin are the most welcoming and friendly people, willing to offer advice and assistance whenever needed. They are ex-pat Australians who have worked the corporate life in several major cities who decided to give that all in for “l’autre vie” or “the other life” and start this wonderful business that has so clearly pleased many people who have stayed there.

They were on hand to offer tips on where to eat in the region (although a lot is to be said about their food – check out my blog for more http://indafood.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/bon-appetit), and what to see and do in the region to suit whatever you may desire.
I whole-heartedly recommend L’autre Vie. Just enjoy and embrace your time in this beautiful haven.

Of our two month trip around southern Europe this was our favourite place. We truly relaxed and indulged here for four nights. The wine, the wholesome cuisine, the Bordeaux sights, the vineyard experience, and not least the wonderful hosts made this place a B&B that we will never forget.

Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the Bordeaux experience.

Taste all of the wines on offer, try the do-it-yourself barbeque pack, and go for a long meander through the surrounding picturesque grape vines.

We stumbled across L'Autre Vie in our holiday search and couldn't have had more luck in our choice of destination. In keeping all the other reviews we can only re-iterate this is an idyllic boutique BnB with warm, welcoming and helpful hosts who really made our stay so special. There are endless opportunities for exploring and learning about the incredible local wines with St Emilion, Pomerol to Sauternes nearby, and this is the perfect spot to come back to at the end of the day. The option of a BBQ on the deck was a real bonus and we are still talking about the delicious breakfasts!

If you want to find the perfect place to get away and be right in the middle of Bordeaux's Wine Country, this is your place. Justin & Vanessa have an incredible location and treat you like family. Our only regret is that we did not spend a week there. We will be back though....

A lovely chambre d'hôtes not far from Bergerac with high spec rooms, spectacular views and great hosts. Cannot recommend a visit here enough - Try the BBQ packs they offer as they are wonderful!

We could not more highly recommend staying at "The Other Life". Justin and Vanessa were such warm host, it was more like staying with old friends than a typical b&b. The New York room is fantastic, so if you can book it, do. Vanessa's catering is excellent and outstanding value for money. The two of them make you feel as the place has been designed for you - the complete opposite of what we have experienced elsewhere - anything other than 'just another client'. The fixtures are all top quality, the shower built for 3, and the bed equally so - so big and so comfortable. The pool is brilliant and the supply and pricing of wine very good. This place is everything it promises and more. JUST GO THERE, you will be not disappointed!

My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend in Bordeaux at l'autre vie, which we found by luck through the Google search engine. We absolutely loved it there and would recommend the B&B to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away full of wine, bikes and breath-taking views!

The B&B itself is situated in the middle of a vinyard and is beautifully decorated - both inside and out. We stayed in the London room which is traditional, yet modern and very clean - and also looks out on to the stunning vinyard outside. One of my favourite parts of the stay was most definitely lazing on the deck by the pool in the sun, sipping a glass of wine and looking over the beautiful surroundings!

Whilst we were at the B&B we visited a local vinyard and met the owner who gave us a tour of the production facility in English and provided us with a wine-tasting session. We also visited the more popular tourist desitination of St Emilion which was just a 30 min drive away from the B&B. In St Emilion we visited the wine cellars, wine museum and (of course) the wine shop to taste the local wines & select a few bottles to ship home!

We hired bikes at the B&B and from there spent half of the day riding around miles of vinyards and some of the local villages. The views were extraordinary and there were barely any cars on the roads! The local villages were authentically french and very charming - and there were barely any other tourists around! Had we stayed in St Emilion or Bordeaux I don't think we would have thought to go to these villages as they are less well-know. This another great reason to stay at L'autre vie rather than in the heart of St-Emilion which was pretty, but much more tailored for tourists.

Finally, a word on the owners, Vanessa and Justin - who were incredibly good hosts and served delicious breakfasts every day and a gourmet BBQ dinner!

We would definitely recommend this B&B and would like to go back ourselves one day. A great place to stay either as a couple or with a few friends.
