“Wow! What a chef!”

Hidden gem on the beach in Same, Atacames, Ecuador. Unfortunately it is located behind le Tereza restaurant, which is right on the beach. But great ambience with hanging bottles, vines and plants. Antonea was a gracious host and extremely accommodating. We ate there several times but the last night was very special. We asked Antonea for his suggestion for dinner and we were presented with this huge plate of seared tuna encrusted with nuts and served with fresh vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. His presentation was beautiful and appealing to the eye, which isn't always the case in Ecuador. Portions are very large and easily shared between 2. If you choose to do this the prices are right in line with other restaurants in Ecuador. Also had a nice wine list. Will definitely go back when in the area.

“Not what it used to be...”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

We found this restaurant really special in June of 2010 and were looking forward to another spectacular meal in August of 2013. While the service remained extraordinarily good, the quality of the food had declined seriously. We were so disappointed since our first meal there was great. Perhaps understandably it seems to have turned into a neighborhood cocktail lounge to make it work financially. It had previously served ceviches of the quality and innovation one would expect of Douglas Rodriguez. Was there a change in chefs during that interval?

“Unique, delicious, and worth every penny”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

We rode to the Seaflower in an "ecological taxi" which is a cart attached to a motorcycle. If that was not unique enough, the meal was even more so. Owner/Chef/Server Antonea served a delicious meal with the most amazing presentation, The fried calamari was the best I've ever eaten served alongside fresh lettuce and avocado drizzled with a tangy mustard vinaigrette. The 12" long langostas (giant shrimp) baked in wine, butter and garlic was delicious beyond description. And then the dessert of fresh pineapple with chocolate liquor drizzled over fresh made ice cream topped with macadamia nuts. Wow what a meal! The decor of the restaurant is also unique, wine bottles hanging from the ceiling, South American pottery decorating the tables, twinkling lights and vines creating the exterior walls. Definitely a must when you are in Sua, Ecuador or anywhere near. $$$

“Food to kill for”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

The food at the New Sea Flower is unbelievable. The sauces that Atenea creates, the presentation that has to be seen to be believed, the freshness and quality of the food - I could go on for ages. The food is just fantastic. Don't expect to rush in have a meal and rush out. Everything is cooked fresh, so patience, as always, is a virtue. If you're looking for a cheap meal, again this is not for you. However, the food you will experience you will never forget.

Let me just add, I'm English, and cook as a hobby. Therefore, I tend to be a little critical when I visit restaurants. However, at this restaurant, there was nothing to criticise. Everything was excellent.
