We arrived at the anchor for a family meal.2 adults and our 2 daughters aged 12 and 15.it was 5.30 on a Monday so it was fairly quiet.there were several men drinking and staying in the inn as there is a well known golfcourse in the area.I found the main menu for my 2 daughters didn't suit so we checked the children's menu which was extremely limited.our 12 year old ordered off this menu and my 15 year old ordered fish and chips off the main menu.we ordered a starter and main each.when it arrived my starter was slightly warm(luckily I don't like red hot food).our mains were fine.we had several drinks.the male member of staff did nothing but mess with the computer.a female member came in later and he came to life.the restaurant area wad having some work done and there was a curtain partitioning it off.the male member of staff went behind the curtain with this female and was playing with a soft toy(Elmo) which talked.what he didn't realise was you can see through the curtain.we paid our bill and left.the carpark is very dark in the evening.it is a lovely pub/b&b in a gorgeous location but the male member of staff could smile a bit more and would probably benefit from some hospitality training.the food is good.

This is a super place to relax. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful rooms & great food. Could not have asked for more. Would definitely recommend friends. It's an ideal location for exploring Northumberland. The views from our room The Durham were brilliant.
We were really sad to leave after our 3 night stay. What lovely friendly people. I would definitely return.
The food was wonderful too & do try the pizza's. They are just brilliant, I had A Bunch of Grapes. Blue cheese walnuts & grapes, mmmmm so tasty

The views from this place are fantastic!!! It is situated on top of a hill looking over the surrounding countryside with great panoramic veiws- nice veiw from rooms as well
It is very rural so be warned if looking for additional night life! (only pub in village)
The bar is well stocked with a few real ales and lots of single walts for the whisky lovers, the food is also very good with generous size portions (try the mixed gorilla if you dare!!!)
The breakfast is very good offering a full fry up to cereals etc....
The rooms are very clean and very modern most with walk-in showers.
free wifi is available in the bar area.
the staff are all very polite and helpful.
Would stay here again!!!

Stayed at the Anchor for two nights in July. We could not fault the service from arrival to departure. The service, food, accomodation and customer relations were excellent. The rooms are tastefully decorated with nice touches such as the fluffy robes and straighteners. The views aided by the window seat were fabulous.
All the meals we had breakfast and evening meals were very enjoyable. Well presented and delivered in good time.
All the staff were friendly and accommodating nothing was any trouble for them. I have owned pubs with accommodation and I would be proud of the staff and facilities I found at the Anchor
Would I recommend staying and returning to the Anchor...no hesitation.
Great location.

Room Tip: Enjoy the views from the rooms overlooking the front of the building. Embrace the northern charm an...

We stayed here for two nights whilst touring around the East coast and Northumberland. The room was modern and comfortable and we had lovely views over the surrounding countryside and a comfy window seat to enjoy the view! The room had tea/coffee making facilities and a hair drier and straighteners. We enjoyed our varied evening meals and breakfast was excellent. The service was very good and the staff very welcoming and accommodating. It was our Ruby wedding anniversary and they had a bottle of champagne chilling for us on our arrival. A big thank you to all the staff!

Visited with a few friends for a lunchtime meal. Food and service was ok I suppose, but I was a bit taken aback by the price of non-alchoholic drinks - bought a pint of lager for my friend at three pounds thirty and a pint of lemonade with lime for myself ... three pounds sixty.
Live fairly locally but won't be going back, it's a bit out of the way and there are lots of pubs/hotels/restaurants in the area I would choose to visit instead.
