Attraction details
Owner description: Cley Marshes is the oldest Wildlife Trust nature reserve in the country having been purchased in 1926 to be held "in perpetuity as a bird breeding sanctuary". Today Cley Marshes is one of the country's most popular birdwatching sites, attracting over 110,000 visitors each year. The award winning centre was opened in 2007 and features interactive interpretation, regularly changing exhibitions and a well stocked gift and book shop. There is also a large cafe which serves tasty local produce and offers panoramic views over the marshes and coastline. 2015 Has seen the opening of the new Simon Aspinall Wildlife Education Centre, which provides a fascinating and informative mix of interactive interpretation, exhibitions, events, activities and education programme.

been birdwatching here for years. Pity the abnormal weather has moved the shingle all over the place but it didn't spoil our enjoyment especially with the avocets and a beautiful wheatear.

“Birds galore, extensive sea fishing and wild marshes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

A great part of Norfolk away from most of the built up areas and an opportunity to get back to basic nature. The marshes and beaches are wild and at times can be invigorating. Great area to get away from things, meet few other ramblers and spot loads of waders.

“Excellent for Bird Watching & Walking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2014

Whilst NWT has suffered from the recent storms and flooding, this is still a place not to be missed, you need to dress up against the bracing cold wind across the open space, including walking boots or similar. For those of us new to the area and not always familiar with the different birds and exactly where to look, my wife and I were more than pleased with the help given us just on entering the hide by those who visited often. The centre its self has a lot to offer and we enjoyed a refreshing light lunch on our return. Will certainly revisit when again in the area.

“Location, Location, Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

If you are a serious (or even a semi-serious) birder you have to put up with awful conditions and poor food on your trips to the best birding sites around the country but here you can have home-made cakes, hearty soups and light meals in the comfort of a superb visitor centre with stunning views over the Cley Marshes. Good selection of bird/wildlife related books and gifts and you can try out some new binos at Cley Spy who now have a shop here.
