“Excellent food”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

Had the best rarebit I can remember followed by excellent cheese scone. Very high standard of food, freshly made, good flavours. All in a great location as it's right on the coastal path. We walked from Blakeney which makes it an easy stroll over the salt marshes and a very rewarding meal at the end of it.

“Definitely worth a return visit”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

A very pleasant lunch, in lovely surroundings, probably quite unique! You feel relaxed the moment you walk into the lovely garden. We sat outside, so cannot comment on the inside tables, but service was good and friendly enough. Menu could be classed as simple done well - for me that is what i want from a cafe. Well done west cottage cafe.

“Odd - but in a good way!”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

This eclectic café is undoubtedly delightful in sunny weather, with as much seating outside as in. Based in a cottage, you enter crossing a small bridge over a fish-pond, noticing a (rather unfriendly!) notice absolving responsibility for any accidents arising in crossing, and the garden is on a couple of levels with at least one secluded table looking out over a field.

Inside is clean and friendly, with local produce and sandwiches - we chose specials from a board (which was outside - I didn't see one in) and enjoyed a paprika-laden mushroom rarebit. Service was functional but efficient, and strange as it seems to have someone hand you the bill at the table and then stand over you as if to demand immediate payment, I wasn't offended by it. It wasn't a cheap lunch - almost twenty pounds for (essentially) cheese and mushrooms on toast twice, one coffee and a soft-drink - but there were plenty of nice touches to make it memorable. The coleslaw was delicious, there was a very palatable salad dressing on the table, and the salad was a notch above an empty garnish.

Pleasant as it is to have a selection of reading matter as you wait for the toilet, being overlooked (not in the cubicle itself, thankfully, but certainly as you wash your hands) by those dining in the garden, is a little disconcerting, and brought an irony to the picture on the door which is of one person looking over the toilet door at another. This was just another 'odd' feature of this wholesome, seaside café - but it's 'good' odd!

We think odd is good too. The loo sign was a present and we are impressed that you got it - many people don't. As for the notice, thats an insurance companyobligation I am afraid. Glad you enjoyed the food.

“Lovely lunch :)”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We visited this lovely cafe in Cley a few weekends back. The food was excellent, fresh ingredients with great flavour! I also think that previous reviews about the customer service are a bit unfair. We found the host very pleasant and welcoming. Overall, a lovely cafe and an ideal stop off for walkers visiting the area!

“Good spot”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Visited twice, once in the morning for coffee and toasted teacakes and once in the afternoon (the following day) for a crab sandwich and a cream tea. The teacakes were great although the coffee (latte) was only just hot enough for me and wasn't particularly strong either. The crab sandwich was lovely, however, and they do a really good pot of tea. However, as others have pointed out, the gentleman serving could be friendlier, although the lady and girls who served us were fine.

Sorry about your coffee, you should have said and we would have made another one. Pleased you enjoyed the food though. As for the gentleman - chained to the sink has to be the answer!
