“Tourist Rip Off”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

You should definitely go to this restaurant at your own risk. There aren't prices, so the owner charges whatever he feels like he can get out of you. He 'gets to know' all of his customers, particularly the attractive women, even when its obvious that many don't want his attention, and the food...delivery is slow, most of it seems like it is prepackaged/frozen or canned. We wouldn't go back. Definitely not worth the money or time

“Delicious Food and BIRDS!!!”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

The food here made my mouth water and the owner was so gracious. Even though the place was full, it had a perfect vibe to it and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. They have bird feeders in the trees along the outer wall and it was a joy to eat and watch them. Would come back here and to Sol Food if we returned to Curacao!

“Terrible service”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

First visit to Curacao and we are loving it!! Decided to try some local food yesterday for lunch and had been told Jaanchies was very good. We arrived just before 12:00. The setting is cool - tables are inside, open air concept (no walls on the road side) and you can watch tropical birds eating and singing in the bushes.
There are no menus - we were visited by a gentleman who sat at our table and discussed food options. My sister and I love fish and the gentleman suggested a combo plate of shrimp, conch, and fresh fish (wahoo). We decided to share a plate. The cost was $24.00. My brother-in-law ordered the beef stew. This was shortly after 12:00. We ordered a round of beers. The female servers had the personally of dead fish. They had "hate my job" written all over their faces. They didn't speak to us - it was actually painful to watch them trudge from table to table.

The big wait began. Maybe it was a ploy to drink more as we ordered another round of beer. Finally around 1:30 our lunch arrived. We were quite hungry and bored by this time. The wahoo was terrible, overcooked and very dry. There were 6 small shrimp (salad size) and 1/4 cup amount of conch. The beef stew was tender but nothing exceptional.

Dessert which is included in the price was an Chapmans ice-cream sandwich. My brother-in-law jokingly wanted to know if he could get the recipe. By the time we left it was well after 2:00 - as we left we got a token parrot (made in China). Total waste of time and money.

“Something different with some exceptions”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

Place does not look very nice outside but from inside, nice. No menu so verbally told menu ok, but no prices told. Assumed this will be expensive as it was. Most expensive lunch for us in whole 3 week traveling Florida, Aruba and Curacao. Anyhow food was ok and Iguana tasted very good. Service could have been bit faster but maybe slow dining is good for while. Additional "surprise" at the end was a plus.

“Great, fun, local place”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

A very comfortable restaurant with a wide selection of great stuff - even iguana stew! At night, they feed bats right on the street side of the place, so they are buzzing all around the place. Weird at first, but kind of fun to watch. The daily specials on fish are always great.
