We are SPG members and usually only stay in their hotels and this one was, BY FAR, one of the best (if not THE best) hotel we've stayed at - and we have traveled extensively all throughout the Caribbean and more. The Westin was absolutely gorgeous. We were upgraded for free to an oceanfront room and looked right onto the sand and across to St. Barth's. The room was HUGE and the bathroom was gorgeous. The infinity pool led to another pool that had a great swim-up bar and was RIGHT on the ocean looking at St. Barth's. The pool in the evening was a fun hot spot (and we even had our 1 year old son with us) as everyone enjoyed drinks in the pool while listening to live entertainment. The resort was situated that it always has the most amazing breeze that is so refreshing and a lot nicer than other parts of the island that can get too hot with limited breeze. It is a little remote, but so are many of the other resorts and, to be honest, renting a car is beneficial no matter WHERE you stay on the island. There are so many great pockets to visit that without a car, you would miss so much. We actually drove to many of the other major resorts to check them out and, HANDS DOWN, the Westin was above and beyond the nicest we saw. Also, I wouldn't want to stay right in the middle of any of the towns as they aren't as pretty and get busy. The Westin is SO peaceful and gorgeous, but fun at the same time.

The staff from valet parking to front desk were wonderful. The Sunday Brunch was unbelievable. The pool area was quiet for a resort and the cabana service was excellent. The staff was friendly and very accomadating. I highly recommend this resort. The spa treatments were one of the best I ever had. We came out winners in the casino too!

This hotel is very pretty and located on a beautiful beach in St. Maarten. The pool area is large and nicely landscaped. At this time, there were plenty of lounge chairs to accomodate the crowds. I liked that they had many lounge chairs with cushions around the pool.

The rooms and bathrooms in the room are huge. They are so big that it almost looks strange that there is so much empty space, but it certainly wasn't a problem. The beds were very comfortable, as they usually are at Westins. And the bathroom had a glass enclosed shower and small tub.

The problems we encountered were with the service at the hotel. I stayed here with my husband, parents, and brother for just one night after visiting Anguilla for a few days. So we booked three rooms, and arrived at the hotel around 2 pm (check in was at 3). They told us we were automatically upgraded to ocean view rooms, which sounded good. But at 2 pm, only 1 room was ready and we were told that we could return anytime after 3 for the keys to the other rooms. The problem was we didn't end up getting access to the other rooms until around 5 and it wasn't easy to get the keys to those rooms. Also, when we checked out, they tried to charge us for the upgrade to ocean view rooms, which we never asked for. They ended up taking the charge off the bill, but it was just another issue to deal with.

Overall, I'd recommend this hotel for the beautiful pool, beach, and comfortable rooms. But it seemed like the service was lacking a little.

Began our first day of vacation at 3:30 am. Traveled most of the day to beautiful St. Maarten to begin seven days of vacation on June 4. After arriving at Westin in late afternoon, my wife and I were immediately stopped on the way to the room by salesperson trying to sell timeshare. We still had our luggage with us. Once we freed ourselves, we discovered our room smelled sour and the hallway was dirty (3rd floor north side). We changed and went to beach/pool/hotub to relax. As we were unwinding, a manager approached us and asked us to leave the pool/hot tub area. No one was allowed in the one and only pool, hot tub, or outdoor bar because other guests had reserved all of the outdoor space. Everyone else had to go inside. We were told we could go to casino. As kindly as possible, we let the manager know of our extreme disappointment. The hotel sent up some cheese. Although we had a five day reservation, we left after two nights. The hotel would not refund any of the five days. Paid in full. Sorry about your bad luck.

We stayed here taking advantage of interval international's special pricing to see the new resort. It is beautiful, but not as nice as other westin's we have stayed in, specifically the westin kanapali in maui, hawaii that was excellent in all aspects.

The "turn-down" and maid service was excellent, but the hotel/front desk and concierge service were all somewhat not acceptable.

The phone system for the hotel was down the entire week of our stay which is an inconvenience. On sunday we bought a bottle of wine and stopped by the front desk and asked for wine glasses, they never came. On monday we stopped by the fornt desk and asked for wine glasses, waited for 2.5 hours and they never came. We walked down a third time and asked for wine glasses and finally they came about 20 min later. had we been able to call and asked, it would have been easier, but since the phones were down it was even more of an inconvenience.

We wanted to snorkel and the concierge recommended a certain charter, who I have reviewed on here, and it was not the best recommendation. The boat was relatively small and the overall trip was horrible. Not researching on tripadvisor before we booked the trip was a mistake. Other travelers had similar problems, and other snorkeling companies were highly recommended and offered more for their customers for around the same price. I believe the concierge has/had "ties" with this captain, and gave a biased recommendation.

Lastly, we got a flat tire on our rental car. We went to the front desk and asked what to do, so she called the rental company for us. After hanging up the phone she tells us we needed to change the tire and return it to the rental company. She didn't ask us if we needed any help changing the tire or anything like "let us take care of it, your on vacation."

I feel like we didn't ask for much during our stay, but what we did ask for wasn't taken care of with competence.

The resort is somewhat secluded and out of the way, but that does have its pros and cons.

I will return to SXM, but we will try another resort next time.
