We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Cute room with great balcony & a nice kitchenette. We enjoyed the location & pool. Very helpful staff. Only complaint is cleaning staff could have cleaned more thoroughly during our stay. Will definitely stay here again if we come back to St. Martin.

We we fortunate enough to stay at the Sol in January and will definitely be back. The location is perfect, with easy access to beaches, walking distance to fantastic restaurants, and only a short drive from Phillipsburg. The hotel is clean, practical and comfortable with a beautiful view over the marina. The kitchenette is a great addition, with facilities to make breakfast or lunch. The hotel manager, Colette, is more than accomodating, always has helpful information about the island and an infectious smile. We will return!!!

Two requirements for a great vacation in St. Martin are: 1) access to an island resident who can give you help and advice, and 2) a nice hotel room in a quiet, beautiful location with easy access to the rest of the island. These two requirements are admirably fulfilled by the Sol Hotel, and its manager, Colette.

The Sol Hotel is on a hill in the French section of Oyster Pond, which is on the east side of the island. It provides easy access to Phillipsburg on the South, Marigot and Grand Case on the West, Anse Marcel on the North and Orient Beach on the east. It is only a few minutes from the road which circles the island. While it is across the island from the airport, it is little more than a 35 minute drive (except at rush hour). Oyster Pond provides excellent access to everything on the island.

Sol Hotel’s manager, Colette, has been on the island for more than 20 years, and she knows everything and everybody. She has very practical suggestions for getting as much out of a visit to St. Martin as possible. You won’t find a more gracious, intelligent, congenial and helpful person for opening the secrets of the island.

Our room was excellent. The bed was comfortable. The shower was hot and had plenty of oomph. There was a kitchenette. The porch has a great view of the Bay. The pool is refreshing. The palm trees add to the atmosphere. While it is easy to get to Marigot or Grand Case for a world-class meal, there are plenty of great places to eat which are within minutes of the Sol Hotel. They include:

- L’Oasis and Le Planteur, both which are fine French Restaurants.
- Mama Pizza, which is just up the hill.
- BZH, a great informal pizzeria and creperie, which is across from L’Oasis.
- Dinghy Dock, a very informal bar with excellent bar-food, at Captain Oliver’s, just down the hill. We ate there twice. One meal was big enough for my wife and I to share.
-“Aux Pain d’Epices”, a convenience store which is a short walk away, which has croissants, baguettes, and everything you need for breakfast on the porch of your room, under the palm trees, and overlooking the bay.
All of the above are on the French side of Oyster Pond. There are a half dozen more restaurants on the Dutch side of Oyster Pond, which is just a few minutes away.

My wife and I just returned from a week at the Sol Hotel, and we had a great time. You are not going to get anything as good as the combination of the Sol Hotel and Colette for three times the price anywhere on the island. We shall return.

We stayed 8 nights in January at Sol Hotel. It was exactly what we hoped for and expected. The room was clean and had what we needed. The small kitchenette was an unexpected bonus--it came with a hot water pot, coffee pot, basic utensils and plates and glasses. We could chill wine and juice in our fridge. When we needed anything, we had a quick and friendly response from Colette or whoever was there in the office.
The property is well-cared for. The shower was hot with good pressure and though we didn't use it, there was a mosquito net for sleeping if we needed that. The location is quiet and perfect. We paid a good price for our accommodations and because of this were able to splurge at the spa one day and our trip was affordable. I highly recommend to readers of these reviews to consider carefully those who complain. Look at their other reviews. People who leave negative reviews (which is anything less than 4 stars) can often be picky and demanding and do not know how they hurt the business they're writing about. Colette describes her property perfectly. It is not a 5-star luxury type property but it is worth every euro spent.

Two 60 year old couples needed a hotel for a night before our cruise and were fortunate to locate online the Sol Hotel in Oyster Pond about 30 minutes from SXM airport just inside the French side of island. The location was great in a slower paced locale rather than the tourist rich shopping/casino environs of Phillipsburg or Marigot. It was the island pace you are looking for. All rooms face the pool surrounded by beautiful landscaping overlooking the waterfront and marina nearby.

Managed by Collette and her staff provided a great experience in very clean island decor rooms. She recommended good options for reasonable yet excellent dining nearby. We were sorry we did not plan for a couple more days at the hotel but will in the future.

Room Tip: All rooms have same excellent view.

I agree with previous reviews about how quaint the hotel is but I also agree that when Collette is not around the service is spotty. The hotel (more of a motel) is quaint, but for us that had more to do with the accessibility to restaurants, wonderful croissants at the supermarche, and nearby beaches. When our group arrived, Collette's replacement could not figure out that our group of 6 couples would pay individually for our reserved rooms. She only spoke french and I was a mediocre french student in high school, so the process was convoluted and confusing for all of us. When we managed to check in, there were no towels in some of the rooms, the hot water worked intermittently, and some of the lights were burned out. The pluses were that the pool was refreshing, the location was good, and the price was affordable. Our group stayed in 6 rooms at the hotel with a check out time of 11am. The housekeeper asked us to vacate 3 of our rooms at 9am so she could clean for the next quests. We chose to stay and enjoy the pool until check out time when our taxi showed up. One word of advice: bring a french dictionary.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room #1. No view and next to office.

I loved my stay at Sol Hotel. If you are looking for a luxury resort, this is not your place. But if your idea of a place to stay is a quiet and relaxing place away from the hustle and bustle of the Dutch side with all the cruise ships coming and going, then give Sol Hotel a serious look. The rooms aren't loaded with amenities, but they include all the essentials, and the customer service is unrivaled. I liked how Sol Hotel was basically equidistant from the casinos and clubs on the Dutch side, and all the great French restaurants in Grand Case.
