“expectations are met!!”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

Your in the carribbean, the weather is perfect, the hotel is very nice, the beach is soft sand with a little coral as you enter the water,(water shoes a must). the breeze is fantastic, cooling you off from how warm it really is!. There is construction going on ,but we had 5 rooms at different places throughout the resort. (never heard them once) at any of the rooms. The rooms themselves were fine ,they may not be the best I've ever stayed in but they were beyond fine and plenty of room. We had 2 1bedrooms, 1 studio, and 2 2 bedroom units . Plenty of space and cleaned very well everyday! Full kitchen ,all the stuff that goes along with it. Grocery store and liqueor store acoss street. If I had 1 problem all the beds are Full size not queen or bigger which would have been better. BUT nothing to complain about!!. Food was expensive, but anybody who takes the time to read TA would have a clue what to expect throughout the nice resort. East end is Quiet! There are great restaurants there also !! The resort has 2 fine restaurants ,1 cheaper pub food than the other . Both were very good . Davids does not get its due ,underrated! Tukka, Italian grill, Over the edge, all within 5 minutes to resort were Fantastic!! Lighthouse was very overrated. Nice service, beautiful setting, close by ,presented nicely, good quality , but the quantity was very sparce, for the price you will pay. Viviennes down the street was real native cooking and Cheap!! We did go fishing while ther with Capt. HERMAN. That was FUN. Caught lots of fish ,conch. He Cleaned and fillet them and then came back to 1 of our rooms and put on a fish fry that everybody enjoyed !!!! With all the fixings. HE is opening his own restaurant down the street, Nice location on the water this week . Capt. Hermans East End Fish Fry. YOU have to try this.5 minutes down the road. You do not need to go to 7 mile strip to get good food. TA members who have been there before us ,gave us perfect reports on most things . Thank you for helping it go smoothly and knowing what to expect!!! SOME people Knowbody can please!!! With that over and out till next time.

I do not really understand the reviewers previous to me. This resort has the appearance of being very tired. Consequently as I type this it sounds as if they are jackhammering the floor in the unit next to ours. We are here until Saturday and I am considering a move! This is no place to relax. In our unit- Tortuga Club (Ocean view) the paint is peeling and the carpet is threadbare on the stairs. The beds are not comfortable and the pillows are the pits-lumpy or stiff, are your choices. The hot water tank is tiny and only good for one shower or bath at a time. Imagine if we had brought the kids!
The beach is pretty but apparently this is the windy side of the island (East End) and so water is choppy all the time. Still the snorkeling is good this side but weak swimmers would probably tire easily. You have to have a car- 40 minute drive to "town" (the airport, 7 mile beach, nice restaurants.) The grocery and restaurant options are slim on this end. Better to shop in town at Kirks by the airport. When you arrive at the airport do not bother to come straight to the resort- we waited until 5PM to check in. Rather drive to Royal Palms (7 mile beach) and go to the pool or beach- they have a very nice beach bar/restaurant outside; toilets and change rooms and outside showers- then do your shopping and head to East End in the evening.
Pros: The restaurant here is good. Maid service keep the place pretty clean. We have a decent kitchen so we can save some by eating in a little. Staff is fair- but not bending over backward or anything.

Room Tip: There are no elevators. I would say try to get on the first floor unless you are traveling light.

We've stayed here 4 times over the last 10 years and this island is my favorite place in the caribbean region. It can be expensive for food and drink, but staying in a Morritt's Grand or Tortuga resorts can help! Full kitchen is nice and there is a grocery store right accross the street.
The resort is fabulous with great beaches, pools and snorkling right from the beach! You can also rent sail boats, jet skis, kayaks, etc right on the property.
Be active or just relax in a hamock all day or louge poolside and drink at the pool bars!!
The activity director is great and there are always things going on at the resort. Volleyball is a popular activity with the guess most weeks. This resort is great for couples and families and we always see multi generational groups here. Everyone is extremely friendly and nice.

There are some good restaurants close by, but if you want the night life of 7 mile beach, this place is not for you.
However, 7 mile beach and Georgetown are both a short drive away, so it really is the best of both worlds.

Room Tip: The Grand has all ocean view rooms with either a patio or balcony overlooking the ocean. Tortuga un...

I stood in a two bedroom, second floor, time share at the Morritt's Grand. After reading all the reviews, I knew I wanted to stay at the Grand and not the older Tortuga Club...I made the right decision. My husband and I came with another couple....it was spacious and the view of the ocean was spectacular. We had a large balcony with lounge chairs and a table and chairs to eat on. Our balcony was especially large because we were a corner unit 7206. The room was immaculate, and housekeeping came every day. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. I'll never forget looking at that turquoise ocean from my room every day. I've been to many islands, this was the most beautiful water I've ever swam in. I highly recommend going to the Morritt's Grand.

My family and I just returned from staying in the Grand Resort section of the Club. It appears to be the newest and most updated section. Yes, the Tortuga section looks a bit tired, but will be updated after this current renovation is completed. We had a 2 bdrm and my parents and brother a 1 bdrm. Full kitchens, ours had 2 baths, a huge jacuzzi tub in master, overlooking the ocean. Clean and spacious rooms. Snorkeling right outside your door. Clear water mixed with sea grass and coral. 1st day we snorkeled, we saw a dolphin. Right next to us. We later found out his name is Stinky and they don't want people to get to close to him. Huge tarpon live under the dock where Mimi's restaurant and bar is. They feed the fish leftovers and tons of other fish live there too. Water sports through red sail right at the beach side. The east end is very quiet. 1 other resort next door. You can walk to a very small grocery store and a Subway shop to get coffee(?), the 1 cups...Food at resort was good. Great salads. Veronica at the front desk was extremely helpful in referring places to go, restaurants, etc. David and Paul, bartender and waiter, very nice and attentive. There was no shampoo offered like other resorts. Housekeeping was pleasant and attentive. they did our dishes in our sink! BTW, there is a dishwasher and washer and dryer in the 2 bdrm but you are charged for electric usage. There is a beach towel service and there is no kids club. Games and beach toys, tubes, etc. are signed out from the towel hut. There were grills and people actually bring coolers of food or beer with them when coming to CI. Food is a bit pricy. Sting ray city was awesome. The turtle farm was fun also. The resort is 45 minutes away and you should rent a car. There is an Italian restaurant that opened the Monday we arrived which is in walking distance and was very good. This is not a high end resort. It is in need of a coffee/breakfast grab and go shop. There is no gift shop either. There is a jewelry shop though. Each night there was a different theme. Pasta night, dancing and a band, BBQ. We chose not to participate but nice as an option since there is no night life on the east end. There are three pools. The pool in the grand section was the nicest, overlooking the ocean with pool bar. There are hammocks and chairs at the beach. Beach never crowded, 15 people at any given time. They do not have wait service at the beach either. There were a few days where it was VERY windy. Veronica suggested trying the south side of the island, Smith Cove. It was beautiful! We were never hassled to speak to someone about buying a timeshare. They left notes at the door if we were interested, to stop in. But we never did and no one ever approached us. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. If your big into water sports or just want o relax on a quiet vacation without being where the action is, this is the place for you. If your looking for night life and walking to tons of shop and restaurants, seven mile beach is the place for you.

We ended up at Morritt's Tortuga because we had a week of time-share expiring through RCI and needed to book something. We had never been to Grand Cayman, so we took a chance. In reading many, many reviews before we went, we were a bit nervous, but I'm not sure what people had issue with. We thought the resort was great! The staff was exceptionally friendly, and Jim, the concierge, was extremely attentive and full of helpful suggestions. The rooms are decorated in typical island decor and our two-story townhouse was right on the beach. Not brand new, but far from shabby. Very comfortable and very clean. We fell asleep every night to the sound of waves crashing - what could be better? The fully outfitted kitchen as well as the barbecue right outside of our sliding door on the beach suited our needs perfectly. The pools are great, never crowded, and crystal clear. While they are constructing another building, we did not hear a thing and it didn't have a negative impact on our experience at all (as others have mentioned it had).

As other reviewers mentioned, the snorkling is amazing right at the resort, but if you like to swim in the ocean, you absolutely will need water shoes as the place is surrounded by reef (hence the great snorkling!) The resort is located on the East End, so it is indeed on the quiet side of the island. If you are looking for excitement, this probably isn't it, but if your goal is to relax - lay by the pool, take a nap in a hammock on the beach, etc. this place is paradise.

Room Tip: If you can get a two-story townhouse on the beach, it's worth it!

Most rooms have a view of the pools areas and not the ocean. We asked about an upgrade to an Ocean view, the price was an additional 129.00 per night. The desk clerks did not stay at their desk they retreated to their back offices. The employees that worked at the desk were lacking customer service skills, and so was their supervisor Jesus. I found it interesting that the property is expanding, yet no one in management speaks to the customers or employees.. It seems like the only important customers are the time share owners (the golden turtles). During my entire stay, the only friendly people were housekeeping and maintenance.. On a positive note, the rooms are dated but clean. The beach was nice, the pools are plentiful, but they are not taken care of on a daily basis. We did have fun during the afternoon trivia contests and bingo. The last night I tried to change a US 20.00 to tip the maids and no one wanted to help, including the front desk, the bars and finally the MOD.

Room Tip: Try the Reef or the Grand Morritts
