“Best Food Ever!”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

I noticed a couple folks gave negative feedback on the review summary. I guess they ordered something to experiment and didn’t care for the outcome. Tukka served up the best meal of the week with the friendliest staff on the Island. The owner is hands on and is such a gentlemen. You don’t want to miss out on this place. Tukka made my trip that much more memorable. I wish I found it on day one so I could have eaten there every night. Try it and enjoy!

“Fantastic Meal”
Reviewed March 28, 2014

This was our second visit to Tukka. We saved it for the last night of our trip both times while visiting Grand Cayman. The service is great, and the food some of the best on the island. We had the kangaroo lollipops as an appetizer, Tukka brochette and ginger mahi as entrees, and walnut/date pudding and peach cobbler for desserts. Awesome!

We love the view as well. We were disappointed on this visit since we made reservations to sit on the beach, and when we got there, we were told they weren't seating people on the beach due to wind, but there wasn't even a breeze. They created a table for us, but a wooden post interrupted our view and we felt a bit crammed in on the top of the steps. Not sure if reservations are needed since they never asked for our name.

One of the best parts of this visit was that we saw a shark feed right off the shore while we were eating. So cool! I absolutely recommend this restaurant and will return!

“Okay”

We went during happy hour and had the small plates. We thought some of the dishes were good, but others not so great. The drink was also watered down.

“Great location but skip the brunch!”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

Very nice drive from 7 mile beach. Really lovely location on the water on the East side. We went in Sunday for brunch. Food was plentiful but just ok. Folks around us had lunch ( not brunch buffet) and this looked pretty good.
Worth the drive for the view - less sure about the food.

“Better than some meals in the area but overpriced”
Reviewed March 26, 2014 via mobile

Nice balcony overlooking the water
Service adequate but nothing exceptional
Odd menu with a few non local ingredients
Food was fine but 1 starter 2 entrees 1 beer and a soda was almost $120 including the mandatory service tax
Did not seem worth that.,,,,,

Chef Ron H, Owner at Tukka, responded to this review, April 25, 2014
G'Day Cathy,
We are sorry that your experience at Tukka wasn't 100% positive. We do strive to keep our customers happy with the great atmosphere, breathtaking view, wonderful service and delicious food! It is our daily mission to make everyone's TUKKA experience a memorable one in a good way!

As for the "Mandatory Service Tax" ... it is the norm to add 15% gratuity onto dining bills here in the Cayman Islands. Of the 150+ restaurants on island about 95% of them add this to ensure that all the staff including the chefs, line cooks, servers, server assistants, bartenders, and kitchen helpers are all taken care of.
A little research about the Cayman Islands and you would quickly discover how & why it is a pricier location to eat out! : Your US $120 meal was actually only CI $81. The CI dollar is at a fixed rate 20% above the USD...so every US dollar is only worth 80 cents CI. So you lose 20% before you even start!.. then the 15% Gratuity brings you to a 35% "increase" from the prices you are reading in all the Cayman menus.
As well your research would tell you the numerous factors that make Cayman an "expensive" place to visit and dine out: ALL food products, drinks, cleaning supplies and miscellaneous items required to open the doors are imported from the USA. On top of that the C.I. Government adds another 22-27% in duty.
The islands electricity is generated from diesel fuel and our water is created by reverse osmosis.
The cost of work permits for the employees range from $1,200 - $3,000 per person every year!

If you are comparing our prices to the United States you are correct, restaurants are more expensive in Cayman.

That said we do our best to offer a range of menu items to fit in the budget of ALL travelers:
Over 60% of our main course dishes are priced below $25. We have EIGHT main courses priced from $14-$19. Where else can you get a Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon with sides for just $19...? Amazing! We also have another SEVEN dishes UNDER $25...covering all the bases from Seafood to Beef to Pastas! If that isn’t enough…we do an incomparable HAPPY HOUR Mon-Fri 3-6pm: All House Wines & Mojitos and more for just $6!! And you can feast on Calamari, Salmon sliders, or Lionfish tacos for just $4 each…. Seriously!!

We love our piece of Paradise even if we all have to all pay a little extra for the experience.
We do hope that you return to Tukka soon, find a meal in your price range, have an overall amazing experience and leave saying..."WOW, that was exceptional!"

Cheers,
Chef Ron
