We heard about this place from the couple sitting in the seats in front of us on the plane trip over. They are regulars on the East End and eat here frequently. So, we decided to give it a try, as it sounded so good! We had been out driving the East End of the island just to see what it was like and to check out a couple of recommended snorkeling sites. We were there for lunch and sat at a table on the deck overlooking the beach area and the water. Let me get the food review done before I totally forget to tell you about it, as our lunch was only part of the experience!! I had the Lion fish Tacos with the spicy salsa on the side and the yummy slaw. It was my first time to have the opportunity to try Lion Fish. It was quite good, with a light flavor and was very good prepared in the tacos! Gary had the Pulled Jerk Pork Quesadilla, which I tried a bite of as well and it was was yummy also! The service was great and very friendly and we were really glad that we went there. Besides being a great eatery, the place is in a terrific location!! Looking off at the barrier reef, you can see the wreckage of the Ten Sail sitting atop the reef. not to mention the incredibly gorgeous water! Right at the shoreline, just yards away, you can watch tarpon coming right up into the shallows to feed on small fish, while Frigate Birds wheel overhead! We even spotted a small Nurse Shark come right up to the shoreline to feed. Well, part way through our meal, a couple of the staff who work there went down to the beach area to feed the Frigates and fish the trimmings from the fresh fish from the kitchen!! What a treat!!! Frigates are ocean-going (pelagic) birds who are not normally seen this close up, but, these have learned where there is a free meal!! The guys would toss pieces of fish into the air and these magnificent birds would swoop down to catch it or scoop it out of the water if they missed. They also tossed some into the water, and the Tarpon and the Shark would come in to grab their lunch as well. It is a fun experience for kids of all ages!!
Be sure to go eat at Tukka for lunch at least once, it is truly a great experience!!!
