“Local Spot for lunch: For non picky eaters!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2012

Let's say the food is excellent for the need a nap after local lunch. You will not find anything here that is truly healthy, the food is amazing but healthy no. We came twice for lunch because the fried grouper Cayman style was so good we had to come back for more. Yes we had the rum cake too, both times. The second time around we had the pork, tender and stewed to perfection. We had the carrot ginger juice to start off with both times and it's refreshing. The plates include cassava, rice and beans, and fried plantains. The small size is more then enough especially if you tend to get desert! Their is no service and honestly for lunch this good and inexpensive who cares, you can stare at the ocean and relax while waiting for you food the view is incredible. All of the locals we spoke to said to eat here this is where they go to eat Cayman style grub. If your looking for gourmet and your picky this is not the place for you. If your down to get stuffed with some home made goodness, this is the best lunch spot on the island.

“Truly local cuisine!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

We have been stopping by Vivine's kitchen for lunch for years. You are literally eating right outside of her kitchen in her side yard. The fish is excellent and the view cannot be beaten. Be sure to have your camera on hand. Great prices.

“Somewhat over rated”

Stopped by Vivine's for lunch the first day we were on the island. It is certainly home style cooking and located at the rear of her house. My grilled Grouper was very good...however my wifes fresh Snapper was "bait size" to say the least and not very tasty. Whatever you do do not try the peppers marinating in the jars on the table....Vivine helped put out the burn with spoonfuls of sugar!!

“Maybe the best island food on Grand Cayman?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2012

Vivine's Kitchen is a long haul for most tourists, staying as they are in the Seven Mile Beach area or even at Rum Point. Located at the tip of East End, the restaurant perches on a small bluff overlooking the eastern shore of Grand Cayman.

Choose a seat among the picnic tables and mismatched chairs on the patio overlooking the Caribbean and shaded by the large trees, and just chill while your meal is prepared. (Indoor seating is also available -- but unless it rains, it's just not the right choice.)

The basic menu consists of the island food staples such as curried chicken, jerk chicken, oxtail, fried grouper, fried snapper. There are also hamburgers on the menu, but having made the drive to Vivine's, would you really settle for a hamburger?

The oxtail was succulent and very tasty, cooked just enough to be soft but not so much as to fall apart. The curried chicken similarly had great flavour and was properly cooked. And in addition to the oxtail itself, the meal included excellent rice and peas (ie rice made with coconut milk and red kidney beans), as well as some breadfruit, yam and plantains. Outstanding!

The meals cost roughly $10 for the larger size, standard for the island, but the quality of the food is excellent. 45 minutes each way is just a lot of driving from Seven Mile Beach!

Incidentally, the yard of the house is quite small, and only has space for 3-4 cars. Park on the side of the road if the yard looks too full.
