This was a full day adventure for my wife and I. Joel, our university educated host and guide, gave us a fabulous account of the history, culture, and topography of the region and villages as we made our way up to the ranch. Staff there was just as gracious and saw to our every need. Hacienda was spotlessly clean, with a rustic elegance, equipped with four overnight stay units that seemed on par with any better quality European bed and breakfast. Loved the horseback riding through the tropical forest. Terrain was slightly rugged traversing several mountain streams all while the good humoured Joel would expound entertainingly and educationally about the flora and fauna that we were passing through. Excellent food, beef preparations were exceptionally tender and delicious. We were given demonstrations of both their cheese production techniques and of Raicilla (a type of tequila) production. Sampling these added to the culinary experience. Beautiful countryside. Hiking to the ancient petroglyphs was fascinating and educational. Will definitely recommend to friends.

We had the opportunity to dine at the Hacienda el Divisadero with a group of artists attending a workshop in a nearby village. This open air restaurant delivered absolutely wonderful food, very informative and entertaining service. Armundo, our waiter and host, explained the history of Tequila and Raicilla and how the Hacienda came to be.He was a virtual "George Lopez" comedically but clean. We had the Carne Asado which was the first time that I have had decent beef in Mexico, it could be cut with the fork and was delicious. The Hacienda has all the various types of agave that are used in the production of Raicilla, their unique adult beverage. We all had samples and were taught the tradition of sipping and tasting. The facility also has several rooms for overnight staying and a stable of riding horses.
