We spent the weekend at Chateau de la Resle together with 4 friends when we got married in Paris in March. It was out of season, but still they opened their wonderful chateau to us. It is one of those places that looks even better in real life than on the pictures. It has been perfectly renovated and have a lovely mix of new and old. We were welcomed with a drink to enjoy in front of the fireplace, perfect on a chilly spring day. The garden is lovely and was the perfect place for our wedding pictures. I can imagine it is wonderful at summertime. Johan was the perfect host, recommending and booking table at restaurants, helped us find winyards etc. He is fluent in english, which is really very helpful if you ,like us, don't speak french .The breakfast was exstraordinay - make time to enjoy this! The chateau is in a lovely countryside area, not far from Paris but yet with the lovely feeling of nature and peacefulnes. Probably best enjoyed though, if you have a car.
I warmly recomend chateau de la Resle. We felt brave, deciding on a place for such a special occation just searching the internet, but it really excided all our expectations!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Crowning a hill in the renowned winemaking region of Burgundy, Château de la Resle has the charm and personality of a well-loved private home. The six elegant rooms and suites are taken care of by Dutchmen Johan Bouman and Pieter Franssens, who invite guests to share the French, ivy-wrapped manor house they painstakingly restored. Adding to the feeling of romance and exclusivity is Johan and Pieter’s personal collection of contemporary art and design, which attracts fellow connoisseurs from around the world. From the château, which sits on the edge of an 800-hectare hunting forest, there are bucolic views down the valley of Montigny la Resle. The wine village of Chablis – that gives its name to one of the most famous white wines in France – is also just a short drive away. Exploring the area is a delight, but guests are equally happy to unwind at the château’s spa, soak in the azure pool, or relax by a sizzling open fire with a glass of the château’s own Chablis. ... more less
