“Casual Spot With A View”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

The turnoff from the road is not well marked and not lighted. As you pull up to the place you might thnk you were at the wrong place since it doesn't look like a hotel. It is situated next to a vineyard with nice mountain views. Our room (#4) was nice enough. There are a couple of dogs that roam the property. They did not bother us and they look clean enough but there is plenty of outdoor furniture around the place with cushions and blankets and I did give a couple of thoughts to fleas but did not see any. There was some dog barking in the evening and early morning that disturbed the quiet atmosphere. Idle conversation wtih other guests brought up the change(s) in ownership and there was talk of a lower level of service and attention to detail. As noted in other reviews, the chef Fernando did a great job with our meals. He is friendly and creative.

Good rooms, wonderful food but you have to pay cash for the food (but strangely not for the rooms)... The food made it special though, and the owners made a real effort to make us welcome.

Three couples stayed at Postales for two nights the week of February 13th. We used Postales as a base for several days of cycling and winery visits. The hotel is small, casual and quiet and is surrounded by a vineyard. Beautiful views of the Andes. The rooms are large, the linens and beds were great, and everything was very clean. There is a small pool that we swam in and lounged around in the late afternoon. Several of us took an empanadas cooking class from Fernando, the chef - we even helped to prepare our meal for the evening! Breakfast is included in the rate and consisted of eggs, ham, cheeses, juices, coffee and bread. Be prepared to pay cash in the retaurant - no credit cards were accepted. All in all a very relaxing place to stay - we would return if we were visiting the Uco Valley again.

We stayed here only for one night during out trip, but it was just great! Fernando (the guy who runs the restaurant in the hotel) proved to be a great cook and gave a master class to my mom who is a culinary blogger.
Other staff were all great, very helpful. Rooms were very good, with air conditioner and proper beds.
All in all - great place!
P.S. we also had a massge, which was good, but not amazing as the girl was quite weak (compared to proper Thai massage in Thailand). But still it was very relaxing as before arriving in the hotel we spent the whole day driving in a car through mountains.

Room Tip: Take a cooking class from Fernando (chef)

We stayed at Postales the first week of January. The staff, room and food were all first rate. It is a very relaxing unpretentious spot. If you are looking to get away to a quiet area of the wine region, this is the spot for you. Beautiful views.
Curiously, we had the same experience as biesnitz with the Tunuyan police on Rte 40. For a mere $300 and no paperwork, the 2 policemen from Tunuyan would overlook our driving without lights at 10 am. Not a good way to encourage tourism. This is not the hotel's fault, but they should let the police know that fleecing the tourists hurts the community.

My husband and I just spent 4 days at Postales and had a very good time there. Not much beats having your coffee or glass of wine by the swimming pool and vineyard while you gaze at snow capped 20.000 ft mountains. The staff was marvelously attentive and tried to read our wishes from our eyes. In the restaurant, 'Fuego', Carina and Fernando please you by accommodating your special wishes with lovely meals at very reasonable prices. Our room was quite large, but it would have helped if the third bed had been taken out and replaced with a table and two chairs, and we missed night stands. The bathroom, too, could have used a vanity, or the like. You have to remind yourself that you are in a very rural area which only now, with the boom of Malbec wines, has opened up to tourists other than hikers, and must not expect state-of-the art fixtures and furnishings. The dining room and the common area have a charming rustic decor. It is advisable that you rent a car at Mendoza airport, but be warned: When we left for the airport on our way back, two policemen just north of Tunuyan on Rte 40 tried to shake us down for $ 300 ('grave infringement') for just running the parking lights instead of the low beams while driving. The area, especially Rte 89, has a number of large vineyards that offer ritzier accommodation, wine tasting, vineyard tours, and wine appreciation classes. As a town, Tunuyan is not very appealing (a more pleasant nearby small town is Tupungete), but Postales is located about 10 miles outside of it.
In all, I would agree that the room rates are a bit on the high side when compared with similar establishments, but we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
