“50th Wedding Anniversary”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

This restaurant was booked for a 50th wedding anniversary dinner and the fantastic service helped make the evening a thoroughly enjoyable experience. From the moment we walked in, the owner made us feel welcome and was extremely helpful. As we arrived a bit early, we were taken to the bar area where we had drinks while we waited and were seated a short time later in the main dining room. We opted for the set menu and all found our meals to be really tasty, well-presented, and very good value for money. The table service was excellent. We didn't feel rushed and most importantly, the guests of honour had a great time.

“Never Again”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Been here once before and it was OK, nothing special. This time it was awful. The butter portions on the table (for the tiny piece of homemade bread) were unspreadable. Pate/parfait was tasteless and icy cold and was served with a tiny piece of homemade toast. The asparagus starter with egg, came without the egg and tasted of just garlic. The lamb shank was tough and could not be parted from the bone. The mushroom stroganoff was full of very strange flavours of which I could not explain, found it inedible. The crepe suzette dessert eventually came out when everyone else had finished their desserts, but just tasted of pancake with lemon juice. There was constant loud banging coming from the wall next to us, sounded like the builders were in! And finally, as a party of 13 we were so crammed next to a wall that everytime someone wanted to leave the table, several of us had to stand up and push our chairs in to let people out, so annoying!

“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

This must be Shropshire's best kept secret, a wonderful restaurant (with accommodation), in the scenic village of Chetwynd Aston near Newport. A lovely old building with great décor and a wonderful atmosphere, this family run restaurant offers great fine dining food at a very affordable price, such as the Friday menu of 3 courses for £20 each.

It has recently been tastefully extended, to include a large 85 plus seater function room with separate bar, to cater for large groups. Friendly and well trained staff, great food, in a lovely setting.

Try it, you will not be disappointed

“Fantastic experience from start to end”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

We went for a family meal (all 8 of us! from ages 28 - 78!!) - Fantastic experience from start to end. To start, the decor is modern, simple, elegant. The food and service was excellent!!. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly throughout our one night stay. The bar and restaurant had a lovely warm atmosphere - perfect for all those (too many!) glasses of wine. Having visited before, I look forward to returning again. All in all, just 'fantastic'.

“disappointing”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

Tried the restaurant as it was recommended by a friend. Staff are very polite, but a bit too keen. once your plate is empty for a few seconds, they get snatched away. It felt as if they were rushing us. Restaurant was nearly empty, but function room full. The champagne dinner that we had, only came with 1/2 full glasses, although other drinks (coke etc) are very reasonably priced.
Portions on the small side, tempted to have a bag of chips on the way home after 3 courses, however the quality of the food is excellent and well presented, however vegetables could have done with cooking rather than just warming. raw sprouts are not the best.
Nice music playing in the background, however cd keeps stopping / skipping / sticking, and staff seem to not notice as they walk past.
needless to say, did not leave a tip, won't be rushing back either.
