“Not for us. Will not be going back in a rush!”
Reviewed December 23, 2013

Had booked a table for a Christmas celebration.(2 couples). Lovely decoration and very Xmasy with the decoration. Menu looked good and prices not expensive.

That's all the good thing I can say. The atmosphere was appalling not welcoming at all. In fact we all felt like an inconvenience to the staff. The food was rushed out and we were told to decide wether or not we wanted dessert as the chef was finishing! Drink was spilt over my sisters dress the lemonade was off the table was left full of glasses, and when I suggested that the young lady clear them she huffed off not to be seen again. The food was served by a gentlemen in a sweatshirt who looked like he was manning everything!! It was not a pleasant place to spend an evening.

Still I can go and spend money were it will be appreciated.

The Peacock hotel in Henton is a true gem. Situated at the end of the village near the green. Have been there many times for lunch, dinner, a function or Sunday lunch.Service is reliable and efficient. Food is excellent. Martin and his staff are friendly and welcoming. Love going there with family and friends- always a good choice.

A lovely find. I actually only live 5 minutes away and never thought to try it. The food and staff where enchanting. I don't think I have ever eaten such large portions of beautifully cooked food. I actually ordered a prawn and smoked salmon salad as a main course, I just couldn't get over one how beautifully the food had been presented. I couldn't actually eat it all far to much. The only let down for me I felt rather cold. I am not sure if they had any heating on, however would highly recommend the food and the price. We will be back!

For an establishment situated down a dead end country lane, The Peacock needed to be very good to be noticed and to be so popular. It was a glorious summer evening when we arrived, mid week not weekend, and the place was busy. Locals were sitting outside and the inside wasn't quiet either. The Peacock is a typical country inn, not pretentious, owned and managed by the same man. It has individuality and personality not the bland style of many chain inns/hotels.

When we checked in we were asked if we had a dog with us. If we had we would have been given a downstairs room. We were wondering what made the owner believe we had a dog with us. He had noticed a large box in the back of our car when we arrived and thought it was a dog crate. It was a piece of furniture we were transporting, but full marks for consideration. Dogs are welcome here and there are some wonderful walks for them and their owners in the surrounding countryside.

Our room was on the first floor with views to the rear of the Inn. Very nicely decorated, matching cream bedroom furniture which had a crackle glaze finish, co-ordinated bed linen and blind, tv and hostess tray. The bathroom was compact but perfectly formed, with shower over the bath. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well.

We ate in the bar that evening, a superb salad and ice cream to follow (we weren't on a diet it was still very warm) and a glass of very reasonably priced white wine. The bar was busy and doing a very brisk trade in meals.

Breakfast was included in our rate. The owner seemed a little concerned that we didn't want the cooked offering, but from what I could see from other guests it did look very good. Cereals, fruit, yogurts, fruit juice etc were laid out on the bar for guests to help themselves.

Excellent value for money for an inn so close to Oxford. Unpretentious and comfortable with a personal touch.

I have not stayed in the hotel so this review is based on the restaurant. Well, let's be honest it could do with some upgrading in terms of decor, but what is always such a pleasant surprise whenever we go there for a snack lunch or dinner is just how good and inventive the food is, with service which has always been fully attentive and friendly. As others have said the food is good value for money, with first class ingredients, well prepared and attractively served. We have never failed but to enjoy our trips to The Peacock.

We will soon be going again!

Whatever you do you must go here to eat drink stay or all three!
Modern luxury rooms attached to a traditional period pub at the end of a no through road - you have to find this place, as Martin the owner did while walking the nearby ridgeway path and liked it so much he bought it!
The Sunday lunches are epic!
The food anytime is great but Sunday lunches are a blow out!
Super attentive service (led by Martin himself) and fast! Really fast, we sat at the bar ordered drinks and food and had barely had a sip before we were ushered to our seats for our food!
It's simple! Make this a must visit!

Stayed Saturday evening, the Peacock is to be found down a dead end road in a very peaceful situation. Disappointed with room 4 which is in the roof space and at 6 foot tall had to be very careful not to hit my head on all the ceiling joints. In the bathroom they had put in a shower curtain instead of a door and the shower curtain kept joining me. No views from the window other than the roof of the other rooms. The room is directly above the bar & restaurant and you could hear the conversations from below. The tea making kit only had one set of biscuits and chocolate drink, the kettle was cheap and water came out of the lid as well as the spout. Our table for dinner was in the main restaurant with a lively party of 10 younger diners who were thoroughly enjoying themselves, so much so the very thoughtful staff came up and asked if we wanted to move tables, which declined, but, a very caring thought from the staff! we started our evening with Olives, balsamic vinegar & Olive oil dip, main course Risotto & Rib eye Steak, both cooked perfectly and a good quantity a very nice House Merlot wine, went to bed very satisfied. The bed was fantastic and we slept extremely well, The full English breakfast was spot on. Shame about the head height and tea making of room 4.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 4 unless you are small and don't mind the shower curtain joining you, ask for a room...
