“Great Hotel/Pub in a beautiful village”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Only visited for dinner so cannot comment on rooms but food and service was very pleasant, and the village is very picturesque and well worth a wander around. Ate on a Sunday evening so the restaurant was a little quiet but a decent, well priced menu and friendly service

We booked to stay at the Red Lion for one night and were thoroughly impressed with the place, the staff, the room and the whole experience.

On arrival we were greeted by the manager of the hotel. She checked our details in a friendly and speedy fashion, and offered us a reserved table in the restaurant. We declined as we wanted to leave our options open at that stage.

The room was clean, modern, and open plan with the bathroom being up a flight of stairs in the loft area. We liked this although it won't be everyone's cup of tea. We thought it a quirky, characterful and innovative use of space!

We eventually did decide to eat. The meal is standard pub fayre, but was quickly served and tasted good. In fact, the food was better than my expectations of it.

The bar and serving staff were all very friendly. I thought they were very happy to help and seemed to be very happy in their work.

The inn itself is full of character and the fireplace was especially spectacular.

The bedding was good and clean, and the mattress was firm. The whole room was light and airy and we spent a good night's sleep.

Breakfast in the morning was extremely good. I was particularly impressed with the sausages which had a good meat content in them. The person in charge of the breakfast service, Chris, deserves special mention. I was particularly impressed by the way that he remembered and used my name while taking the order. We did mess him around a little by moving tables but he took it all in his stride and was courteous throughout. All in all a very good start to the day.

We checked out and this was also done in a friendly and competent manner.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone travelling around Oxfordshire. I would definitely book there again.

From the minute you walk into The Red Lion you are given the warmest of welcomes. All the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble, Claudia who looked after us at dinner and breakfast was extremely friendly and nothing too much trouble. Our room (9) was lovely with a galleried bathroom, the room was very clean and fresh looking with everything you need
You would struggle to find friendlier or harder working Staff than here.
Dinner and breakfast were really tasty and you could not find fault with the quality of the food or the service.

Room Tip: Room 9 is lovely

We have just returned from two nights at the Red Lion and can genuinely say we were impressed. The staff are exceptionally helpful and can't do enough for you. The quality of food is very high, we enjoyed an excellent breakfast on both days and dined on one evening. Very good local beers - try the red lion beer it's very good indeed- and clearly enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. The accommodation is of a good standard and in line with the price paid. Overall very impressed!

We spent a great evening here. The bar staff were lovely, the beer was well kept, and the food was fantastic value. We took advantage of an offer and had two meals for about a tenner. But it was the people that really made this place shine. It's rare to find such genuinely friendly staff these days. Well done!

We stayed last week at the Red Lion for one night and did not want to leave. Billy checked us in and was very friendly efficient. Got to out room and were amazed how spacious and clean it was. We then went down stairs for a drink and greeted by a very friendly lady. After a few drinks we retired to bed and had a very restfully sleep on a very comfy bed. We got up fairly late and thought we missed breakfast so went to Check out and Monique " The manageress" asked if we're stopping for breakfast and advised it was served until 12:00 so we ended up enjoying a very tasty porridge and full English.

Overall a very plesent stay. All the staff were very friendly and went out there way to make our stay and others memorable.

We will be back.

Called in for lunch and will almost certainly never repeat the experience. Entire meal was boring, uninteresting and tasteless. Yorkshire pudding was hard - the meal itself was badly presented - should have complained but being very English declined and paid the bill regardless.
