“Not Cheap, but Worth Every Penny”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Even when you arrive at this pub you know it's going to be good. The setting is spectacular, opposite the most beautiful little church in a small, lovely Oxfordshire village. The pub itself is old, traditional and very cosy, and the staff are extremely welcoming. The food is more expensive that you would expect from a standard pub, but this is nothing like standard food - it is clearly cooked with love and passion. If you like fish and they have a fish special, go for it - they really know how to choose and cook them. I recommend you book at weekends - it is small and understandably popular.

“Top quality restaurant in a place that is still an English country pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

I went with my wife on a cold March midweek evening (on the recommendation of out Dorchester B&B landlady) to find a cheery warm interior still looking like a true English country pub. We were lucky to get a table as it is quite small. The menu had many innovative dishes (largely of French inspiration), especially the starter menu (my wife had two starters which were almost as big as main-course dishes), and we found the quality excellent. We voted it our best find in a week in the Oxford area. Thoroughly recommended.

“Food at the Lord Nelson”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

6 of us visited the Lord Nelson on Sunday and although we had a great time, and the staff were great, the food was o/k but not great. Good starter of Scollops & Chorizio's but the main meal of roast beef was expencive with veg only luke warm.
Our bill came to over £200, which I could have accepted if the food was better.

“Good atmosphere, lovely staff but service TOO SLOW!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

The Lord Nelson is a lovely pub/restaurant with a good atmosphere and lovely staff. However, we waited an hour and a half for our starter to arrive. This is the second time we have visited in recent months and the second time we have had to wait a long time for our food. The food is OK but I think quite pricey compared with other similar establishments. We would think twice before visiting again; sorry!

We went for a family meal to celebrate a relatives birthday and it was one of the best ever restaurants I have ever been to !! The staff were very kind and helpful and it was a very warm and welcoming place!! The food was absolutely delicious but the food and drink was a tad overpriced! But overall a wonderful experience
