“Food clearly made with love & imagination”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2014

Food clearly made with love & imagination. The gluten free options are superb! Pleae don't go there expecting your food within 10 minutes of ordering this is a small independent place & everything is freshly made so it takes time. This was the second time when I have eaten here I have overheard another table moaning at the waiting staff. If you're going make the most of the experience order the full menu & a few drinks please don't expect fast food! We have not had such fantastic veggie food in Nottingham since the days of Squeak!

“Second visit was less impressive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2014

Our second visit to Café Roya had us waiting for 45 minutes for each course - the staff did apologise after serving our starter, but we then had to wait just as long for the main. This might have been OK if we had not been quite hungry (but who eats out when not hungry?) - but this amount of time is just too long to wait and sip drinks.

When it arrived, the standard of the food was generally very good - but the bean burger and cassava chips let things down, being a bland, dry and poorly put together plate (the burger was almost twice as big as the miserly sized bun): I could have had a much better dish at home using supermarket ready-made ingredients.

Burger aside, the starters were very good, as was the other main. Unfortunately the very long waiting time negated the good quality of the food: having waited so long (arrived at 7:30, leaving nearly 2 hours later, we were so keen to get out that we skipped the usual bill-waiting routine and headed downstairs to pay up and get going (needing to be elsewhere).

We left feeling slightly deflated and probably less keen to return than after our first visit.

I hope things improve if we come again...

“Delicious delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2014

Three of us ( one with severe food allergy) went one hot evening. Did we miss meat or fish? NO!
One of us had the "fish less fish cake" . Wasnt at all fishy im pleased to say. Two of us had the Thali. Enjoyed indonesian salad too. All the unusual flavours tickled our palates positively. The chef came to speak to Mr Allergy and carefully adapted recipes to suit. Thank you.
The only problem we encountered was the strong frying smells requiring better ventilation. We sat upstairs. Loved the cupboard fashioned out of an old fridge!

“A great veggy meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2014

We've eaten here twice now, once as a couple and once with friends and both times the food has been amazing. We were lucky enough to meet the chef on the last trip, she's a very talented lady!

Not only is the food good, but the atmosphere is nice and friendly staff too. Even my meat eater friends loved it!

Highly recommend.

“Brilliant food in a cosy atmosphere.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2014 via mobile

I've just hit four years of not smoking and my wife took me here to celebrate my returning taste-buds. Wonderful food and great service. The place is on a main road but you wouldn't know it while dining. It was a bit quiet but we were there midweek; book early if you want a weekend table.
