I often resolve to write a review of a restaurant I visit... and then forget, or don't have time. But I felt it would be an injustice to Cafe Roya not to record the quality of this place.
On a weekend family trip from Kent, we'd had to book an early table on an otherwise booked-out Saturday evening. Right from the solicitous check that vacating by 8pm wouldn't be a problem, service was both efficient and friendly.
Although we were the first arrivals we weren't made to feel like early birds and there was a cosy home-from-home vibe to the place.
The food was excellent. Cafe Roya pride themselves on making vegetarian food tasty, but this wasn't flavour thrown at dishes for the sake of it. A rich tofu and mushroom risotto was balanced by pak choi and a mooli/carrot/spring onion salad with inspired dark soy and sesame oil dressing. Italian veggie sausages had substantial texture as well as flavour.
The by-the-glass wines were also good quality and interesting.
Overall a great family meal. Strongly recommend it to anyone, but particularly those wanting to explore the range that vegetarian food can achieve. I hope Cafe Roya goes from strength to strength.
