“Fantastic Value & Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2012

I would have expected that anyone that has gone as far off the beaten track as the Khao Sok national park in Thailand would be realistic about what to expect, but judging by some reviewers on here - apparently not!

The place is right on the edge of an amazing national park, you can't get any closer on the basis you're not allowed to stay IN the park! So location is great. Access to the park is easy.

The rooms are quite basic - but what would you expect?? Wooden hut, clean enough, functional enough, fantastically cute. There's a shower which is fine. There is power, light, and a mosquito net. You get your own veranda, to sit in the evenings and listen to the sounds of the jungle and watch random eyes look at you through the dark. Realistically what more could you want?

What sets the place apart is two things - firstly the service. The guys that work there can't do enough for you, are so friendly and polite its great. One night before dinner time we were sat in our hut and there was a torrential downpour taking place outside - we weren't relishing the upcoming sprint to the restaurant. Then there was a knock on the door and there's the owner going room to room handing out massive umbrellas! Bearing in mind we were on a package, so had already paid for the food (whether we ate it or not), he really didn't need to do that. You just don't get that attitude everywhere.

The other distinguishing factor is the value. We went on one of their 3D / 2N package things and it was ludicrously cheap. Try doing the same thing in Malaysia and it'll be a reminder of how good value this place is. How one can pay so little, receive so much, and then still complain that there isn't a heavenly mattress I just don't know!

One final thought - I think the food is better than people give credit for. There's a lady in the kitchen all day producing very traditional Thai food, and its as good if not better than what you would get from most of the average restaurants in Bangkok.

If you want to enjoy a proper eco-tourism stay for a few days and soothe the soul - go here!

We actually travelled here in Jan 2011.

The resort is well-sign-posted off the main road quite a drive down an unpaved road. It is located in the middle of the jungle; there is absolutely nothing around besides the river and jungle vegetation.
The cottages have seen better days; just about functioning bathroom, no A/C, but mosquito nets; no fridge, TV nor phone. 1,300Baht for a 3-bed bungalow, including breakfast, is hardly expensive. The restaurant is right next to the river and offers the "usual" Thai menu.

The resort is a unpaved road away from the main road. It is located in the middle of the jungle. There is absolutely nothing around beside trees and a river.
The cottages had seen better days. Even not very clean, everything is about the jungle. There is no A/C but a mosquito net (with many wholes). No fridge, TV or phone. It is for nature-lovers who are not afraid of animals and insects all around - even in the half open-air bathroom.
The restaurant is right next to the river and offers Thai food for quite high prices. Breakfast comes with simple toasts and Nescafe.

I stayed here for the second time, and although I love the cottages for the jungle feel and quiet, I wouldn't choose it again. The food options are limited, expensive (and not that great), and the transport is non-existent. They charge 200THB per trip, one way, into town, whereas other cottages nearby give unlimited free transfers. The tours from here are also expensive, they charge 3000THB for a day lake tour, which you can easily get for 1800THB from many of the tour agencies or hotels in town.
Stay here if you want peace and quiet, and are happy to just lay around on your balcony (there is a small part of the river you can swim in too, but beware the fish - they bite!). If you want to go to the National park, you are best to stay elsewhere in town.

We chose the 3 night package tour and couldn't be more happy. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds with mozzy nets and a fan and a decent sized bathroom with a good shower. The breakfast was good, lunch and evening meals were excellent!! The whole setting was beautiful, waking to the sounds of the jungle forest and being lulled to sleep by the same. The trips, elephant trecking was excellent, and the walk through the National Park interesting and informative. For us, however, the highlight of the visit was the boat trip around the lake. It was absolutely breathtaking, you didn't know where to look first! We had a boat to ourselves (four friends in our 50's). The trip included lunch at a small floating rest area, the food again was excellent! The resort was very quiet with only a handful of guest and I think for one night we were the only guests. We enjoyed our evenings in the restaurant, and spent our time trying (pathetically) to catch the bats on camera and watching them catch the large bees that were flying around (they certainly make a loud crunch when they do!). The staff were very attentive and the service very good. We booked all our transfers through the booking agent for the resort, this for us helped to make our holiday very relaxing and enjoyable, thanks Frankie, everything worked like clockwork and we felt like VIPs when we arrived at the airport in Surit Thani and saw our names being waved in front of us. Thank you to everyone at Khao Sok Riverside Cottages we had a fantastic time and highly recommend everyone to visit.

I think this is the right accomodation. It was called Art's Riverside lodging. They had about a dozen tree houses right on the river. In the mroning and at about 5 pm you could see monkeys playing in the water and around the hotel. The rooms were comfortable with a fan, mosquito nets and outdoor bathrooms. The hotel staff was nice enough and it seemed like if you could get their attention they might be able to schedule trips for you. This place was a little off the beaten track and you would be advised to take a headlamp for the walks down the dark road. The price was defintely worth it.

We came here after a terrible journey, the river was almost dry and it was hot.
The children (2 and 5) loved the cottiages and the wooden bridges, even though there was no water under the bridges.. The localtion is wonderfull. espcecially the restaurant has a beautifull view. We didn't take a package, allmost everyone else did.

The food was good but average (we didn't have the package-menu's).
The rooms are nice, roomy, basic but fully functional.
Staff was nice and very helpfull
It's a quiet place where you should arrange something, or have something arranged.

Trouble is that it's remote, for transportation and our
GSMs (12call) didn't work.. WiFi is ok, slow, but hey, it's a jungle out there.

I hope it's gone rain soom, makes the place a lot nicer
