“"No Rain, No Leech" :)”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

One word, "Fantastic"! We had a great time staying at this most wonderful of places. The tree houses are quaint, Bodhi, is a most gracious host and the staff very pleasant. My wife is petrified of the creepy crawlies so the catch line was: "no rain, no leech" as told by one of the staff. :)

Room Tip: Tree houses! and do spend a day chilling by the river

We stayed in OJH in February 2013 and loved it; we are 2 couples travelling around Thailand and looking for a mixture of good quality places to stay, whilst being able to see the 'real' Thailand. Khao Sok is a good place to experience jungle life, and combined with the excellent facilities and personal service, we achieved all of the above. The food is great and it is within reasonable distance of any activities that you may want; all excursions can be arranged completely hassle free and at comparative rates! Would definitely recommend, especially thanks to the cheeky monkeys that regularly make an appearance!

Within 3 days, we managed to complete everything that we wanted to; the first morning we went for a hike to visit the Rafflesia flower, relaxing in the VERY hot springs in the afternoon. Day 2 we made the most of the national park and visited Sip-et-Chan waterfall. On day 3 we rode around in elephants in the morning and canoed down the river for the afternoon! All this for around 75euros!

Only negative would be that when an excursion is advertised as 2-3 hours, take into consideration that this includes your travelling time which could be up to half an hour each way.

We really enjoyed our stay at "Our Jungle House" in January 2013. We ve been there already in 2003 and it is still as good as it was when we visited the first time. The food was so delicious. We couldn't stop eating. It was the best food during our entire trip around Thailand. Make sure to try the Crepes with fruit and the homemade chocolate sauce as well as Kao Tom soup. They also offer homemade bread. It's very good too. YUM YUM!!!! The service was also perfect. Very fast and friendly staff. They organize everything for you.

Our tree house was clean and the bed comfortable. Big mozzie net over the bed.

We loved "Our Jungle House" and will be back for sure!!!!!

Room Tip: We loved the Romance House situated directly at the river. It´s a nice tree house with a lovely view...

I couldn't stress to you how great we thought this place was. The family that owns OJH lives on site. They have an amazing, open-air restaurant and the food is ah-mazing. I believe every bungalow faces a cliff that is off the river and you can easily swim in the river (the water is crystal clear and we had a rope swing in front of our bungalow). Swimming in a rainforest river was probably one of the big highlights of my entire trip and not nearly as scary as it sounds since the water is completely clear :) They're networked/friends with what few locals their our and set you up with any shuttles you need, tours to the Lake within Khao Sok (which you HAVE to do), and a night safari hunt which turned out to be a pretty scary spider adventure...at night....on foot...with flashlights...through an uncleared jungle trail. For the adventurous, yes, but I can't stress how great this place is. All over Thailand all I kept doing was telling everyone they had to go to Khao Sok, and it's actually not even very well known with local Thai persons much less international tourists. A very well kept secret (or maybe people just aren't adventurous enough to try it) but I'll remember these experiences for the rest of my life.

We are a family with two teenagekids. We stayed at OJH for three nigths. We stayed at the Thai House.

Our experience with OJH started bad (if you don't count the good email correspondance during the booking). We had asked OJH to arrangere the transfer from Phuket airport. We had of cource informed OJH about our fligth number, arrival time etc. A few days before we left Denmark, I wrote to reconfirm this transfer. Nevertheless there was no transfer waiting for us at Phuket airport. I had to call OJH house. They said the transfer would be there in five minuttes. Several phonecalls and 30 minutes later, the van finally showed up. When we arrived at OJH, all we got was a 'sorry'. I think, they should had offered a reduce of the price. We paid 3300 bath.

The Thai house will work if you have smaller children. The bed upstairs is a little bit too small for two teenagekids.

The club house is very cozy and we loved hanging out there. The staff is very friendly - even though a couple of them don't speak english.

The manger is funny and a very good to create a feeling of 'home'.

The food is good and cheap.

The Night safari is good, but overprized.

The full day trekking in the jungle is very good and worth all the money.

Despite the bad start, we had a good time at OJH.

Our Jungle House is a nice hotel in Khao Sok park. It's set off the main road, so it feels isolated and "wild." The views of the surrounding forest and cliffs are spectacular. We spent one night in the Cliff House, and one in Thai House. Cliff House was pretty basic, and quite near to other rooms so there was spillover noise from other guests-- but it's a good deal given its price. The Thai House was lovely, set higher up in the trees and with a very pretty lofted sleeping space. A few inconveniences at the hotel due to its isolated location in the middle of a national park: no hot water, guests are pretty much limited to eat at the hotel restaurant, internet is spotty, no credit cards accepted... But, again, these are unsurprising given the isolated location in an as-yet largely unspoiled park.
Bottom line: Very nice place to stay in Khao Sok. It's isolated, which has pros (views, closeness to nature) and cons (fewer dining and tour options, fewer creature comforts).

We traveled as a young couple and stayed only 1 night at "Our Jungle House". Our hut was very charming and clean. We certainly had a good night. Neverheless, we didn't experience our stay as one of the highlights of our Thailand trip. The place is simply overpriced. Especially the kictchen was relatively expensive (and actually not that good at all - much better restaurants can be found in the near surroundings!). We left after 1 night because we wanted to stay overnight at the lake of the Khao Sok National Park the next day. We booked our trip at the jungle house, but do know that all local jungle houses and hostels can sell you the exact same trip (you literally end up in the same boat, unfortunately not necessarily for the same price). We chose the 2-day/1-night lake trip and found it rather dissapointing. The place is packed with tourists, the floating lake huts are quite worn out, and your safety is not always guaranteed (we were taken into a cave where severel people got killed a couple of years ago (see, for example, http://teakdoor.com/thailand-and-asia-news/19920-khao-sok-cave-tragedy-survivor-recounts.html). To sum up: great location, charming and clean huts, close to the hiking trail of the national park, but .... eat somewhere else if you can and don't book the lake trip if you dislike over-touristic mass events.

JungleTreehouse, Manager at Our Jungle House, responded to this review, February 2, 2013
Thank you for your comments, and I am glad you enjoyed our bungalows. Normally, our food receives good reviews, and I apologize that it was not up to par during your visit.
We are sorry to hear that your time here did not suit your financial expectations. In regards to our prices, they reflect the high standards of Our Jungle House, and the cost of hiring skilled guides, safe drivers for our private cars, and genuinely friendly staff. Furthermore, we actively support (with money and time) local conservation and education efforts, and do our best to be responsible members of the community.
In regards to the lake, I am sorry that your experience here was not ideal.
Your concerns about safety in Nam Talu cave, in general, are well merited. Your comments, however, do not accurately reflect the high level of security in our tours. While many of our lake tours do visit Nam Talu cave, our guides are not the same as all other groups, nor our drivers.
The safety and well-being of our guests are our highest priority and we choose our guides based on their experience and responsibility. The inherent danger in exploring caves is something we take very seriously, and we would never put people at risk of a flood while in the cave.
For example, we recently had a group that requested a hike through Nam Talu cave, in the middle of the dry season, when it hadn't rained for a week. Though the water level was very low, and there were no signs of rain, before we left Our Jungle House, the guide decided that the group would not enter the cave. The ants had been collecting food in dry locations during the previous two days, announcing the possibility of rain - enough reason not to enter.
I appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns, and thanks for staying with us for a safe and enjoyable experience.
