Keeree Warin Chiewlarn Resort
Reviewed May 26, 2013

We were spend 2 days at Keeree Warin for staff's party. I would not called this place as resort as it is far more for their staffs to understand what is the resort all about.!! Our group arrived at 2pm and no greet from their staffs at the resort. As I was a group leader , one of their staff said get your luggage and take it to your room over there( She means no one helping us because they were busy to sit at the counter and watch us did it. They just enjoyed a free time and not happy to see a customer ) . and then she said if you have take your luggage in the room then your lunch already at the restaurant. They served a cold food!! ( They cooked and leave it at the table before we arrived )Terrible!! One of our staff member asked for an astray and Keeree Warin's staff said we do not provided a service to give you an astray, glasses, carry your luggage and clean to room!! ( Because I went to make clear with them and asked what kind of service you will provide and the young ladies were laughed and said not sure!! ) I paid nearly 100K for our staff holiday's party and I choose a wrong place and see a young girl who sit at the counter all day doing nothing and once they see customer they face just tern miscible!!! Keeree Warin has a beautiful view no doubt about it. Room is okay!! If you are looking friendly service holiday you have to go away from this place . We went to 500rai for drink ( 15mintues by kayak ) . 500Rai is a definitely resort, professional staffs , friendly and smile which we weren't find it at Keeren Warin.. Would I came back to this place!! LOL!!

We booked Keeree Warin for the experience of staying in an Overwater Raft Villa, fully understanding the accommodations would be minimalistic. However, the $150 per night we paid for a family villa was not worth the experience!

The room itself is fine... hot outdoor shower, lounge chair and table on patio and a relatively comfortable bed. The property is a bit rundown with uneven plank walkways, broken boards and a few rusty spots on the ladder out of the lake. There was only one outlet in our room and it was broken, so we couldn't charge camera batteries or iPads... all of which we could deal with.

However, once we arrived at the hotel, following the 1 hour longtail boat ride, we were virtually "stuck." There was VERY little English spoken by the staff, which made it difficult to communicate at all... ordering food, scheduling transfers to the pier for departure and trying to find out about tours. They didn't seem to have any tours available to see wildlife, the Coral Cave or to travel deeper into the lake to experience the beauty at sunset or sunrise. The most disappointing thing though, was the almost unfriendly, unhelpful attitude they all seemed to have... as if we were an inconvenience, including playing music at a very high volume that could be heard in our room, while we chose to stay on the lake for the peace and quiet.

We booked through Agoda for 2 nights in a Family Villa and had an email confirmation showing full payment and room type. At breakfast, following the first night, we were shown on their paperwork that we had a standard room for the second night and were told we would have to move. We had to take time out of our day to travel to a part of the lake where cell service could be obtained to call their boss and sort everything out.

Luckily, there was another rafthouse resort within kayaking distance that we paddled to the first afternoon... 500 Rai. It was beautiful, environmentally conscious, with extremely friendly and genuinely happy staff and they quickly offered for us to join their scheduled tours. Had we not already prepaid for Keeree Warin, we would have moved and willingly paid the higher nightly rate! We met the owner, who showed us around and even prepared a private dinner for us, which we shared with him while hearing his story of how he built and expanded 500 Rai. We went on the Sunset Safari and the Morning Mist Safari with their groups. Unfortunately, there is very little wildlife around and what we did see was quite far away, but the landscapes are still beautiful and seem almost prehistoric in some places. We kayaked quietly to a few areas where we heard Gibbon calls and waited patiently until hearing trees rustling... we were then able to spot many wild monkeys swinging through the branches in their natural habitat!!

All the guests at 500 Rai were Thai and a majority at Keeree Warin, apart from a couple of Russian tour groups that stayed one night at Keeree Warin and were only on the property for about 18 hours. Not sure if that's typical or because we were there close to the Thai New Year? Both have electricity via generators that run from about 6pm-9am and have no wifi or cell access.

I recommend staying at 500 Rai (if you're looking for serious relaxation and currently a Thai immersion with authentic Thai buffet meals) or taking an overnight lake tour from one of the hotels in Khao Sok that offer it. With the lack of wildlife, a 1 night rafthouse stay and longtail tour of the lake is quite sufficient. There are stunning views though!!

Room Tip: Don't choose a Standard Room... we looked at them while there... above the kitchen, small, dark...

This is a gem of a find. We booked only a few days beforehand. We had no print out of the directions so getting here was truly adventurous. Don't travel like me and think you will find it on your iPhone because that's virtually impossible. Also, the hotel's phones were down so we had no firm confirmation. After a great deal of asking where to go, we eventually realized that we had to take a long tail boat there. It was about an hour long on the boat...it was pitch black, the stars twinkled like diamonds in the sky. I actually saw shooting stars it was magnificent yet a bit scary because we had no idea what was in store for us. Well, to make a long story short, it was a wonderful adventure. The floating bungalow was simple but charming. We met people who opted out from the bungalow and had a room above the dining room...take the bungalow! You can kayak & jump off a tree. They have a long tail ride during the day to visit the local wildlife. I loved it!

Room Tip: The bungalows are charming yet very simple. This is not luxury.

Important information:
- Hotel is only accessible by boat = 2,000
- Pier closes at 5pm

We had a very bad experiance with this hotel. Me and my family book a room for 3 nights but never even made it to the hotel ! our GPS in the car didnt recognise the address so we drove as close as we could, only to find out that the hotel is only acessable by boat (not mentioned by our booking website). When we called the hotel to ask for help they first wouldnt answer the phone and then when they did pick up they were laughing and laughing at us because we were lost. NOT GOOD. When we tried to get a boat the wanted to charge 2,000baht one way and then told us that they wouldnt take us today anywya because they closed at 5pm and it was 5.30pm. In the end we decided to go to another hotel and got a refund for 2/3 nights.

This was a special hotel experience. We did not know what to expect. There weren't too many reviews online and there is no address. We found out the hard way that the only way to get there is by driving to the pier at Chiewlarn Lake and paying for a boat ride to the hotel. It was in the middle of the night so we had major concerns on the 1 hour boat ride there.

We were amazed with what we saw when we arrived. This is one of thailand's best hidden secrets. The hotel is located on the lake in the middle of the one of the most beautiful sceneries I have ever laid eyes on. It is not a luxurious experience but if you are seeking untouched beauty, this hotel provides an opportunity to experience it.

If you are looking for luxury, this is not your place. However, if you are seeking a comfortable means of experiencing thailand's natural untouched beauty, this is as good as it gets.

Room Tip: They are all the same
