We stayed here for 1 night on Tripadvisors recommendation and were not disappointed. The accommodation consisted of a sitting room with armchairs, tv, fridge (complete with homemade slice to have with our tea and coffee), & piano. Our bedroom had a 4 poster bed, and well as a single. Bathroom was large and clean. The one thing I noticed upon entering was that there was an 'old smell' in the sitting room. I've noticed it when entering old rooms and buildings in the past, and it's something that I guess comes with staying in an old place. My husband didn't notice anything, but I did each time I entered. Bedroom was fine. Karen mentioned that the B & B part of the building is around 100 years old, so I guess that's where the smell came from. BUT DON'T BE PUT OFF. It wasn't an issue and I didn't even notice it after a short while. Karen had recommended the Allansford Hotel for dinner. It was a good 15-20 minute drive away, but worth it. we had an excellent meal. After a very peaceful sleep, breakfast was served in the attached main house which from memory is only 9 years old. And what a fabulous breakfast John provided. Cereal, yoghurt, bacon and eggs, toast, juice etc. All really delicious, and very good value for the $100 we paid. Will definately stay if in the area again. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your positive comments and for taking the time to bring to our attention the "old" smell you noticed when entering the sittingroom. We have worked out that this was coming from a "vanilla" fragrant diffuser and we have now removed it thereby eliminating this aroma.
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that you would stay with us again if you were in the area

Cannot say enough about our fantastic overnight stay at Butterfly Farm. We visited as a couple with a teenage daughter, travelling from Melbourne, doing the Great Ocean Rd, overnighting at Butterfly Farm and then back by the inland route to Melbourne. We chose Butterfly Farm from reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. Karen & John were terrific hosts and when we arrived after dark with take-away from Peterborough which is about 10 mins to the east, Karen gave us the grand tour of the room and supplied us with plates, cutlery, etc so we could eat our meal in style.
The property is on the Great Ocean Rd, although the homestead is set well to the back so there is no road noise. Our room was perfect with a large bedroom, including four-poster bed and lounge area. Everything was catered for down to the orange juice, biscuits and homemade niblies waiting for us on arrival.
Breakfast next morning left nothing to be desired, perfectly homecooked to order including John's history lesson on the homestead and surrounds.
Overall, cannot say a bad word about the place, just perfect.

A must stay when driving along the Great Ocean Road. Beautiful location, set back from the main street in a pretty garden. Only two rooms available but each of them with their own ensuite bathroom and separate lounge area. Great hosts (Karen & John), phantastic fully cooked breakfast. Defintely value for money.

We drove the Great Ocean Road from Apollo Bay and chose Butterfly Farm as a stopover as it is ideally situated between Port Campbell and Warnambool - affording the opportunity for backtracking if needed. The location also offers easy access to Princes Highway for the inland drive to Melbourne.

Butterfly Farm has been nicely renovated with lovely Victorian / Edwardian architectural touches. Our suite was equipped with a comfortable poster king bed, a single bed (in the same room), an ensuite bathroom, and a separate sitting area with TV and refrigerator.

The grounds and garden surrounding the house have been lovingly tended and are a warm and friendly spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and listen to the birds. Hosts, Karen and John, were extremely friendly; and we enjoyed sharing stories about traveling, gardening, and musical talents.

The location is rural, but far from isolated. If you are arriving late, plan to eat before you come. The nearest restaurant is about 10 miles away in Allandale. John fixed us an outstanding hot breakfast to order of sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, croissants, juice, fresh fruit, cheeses, etc. that set us up for a full day's visit to Port Fairy. On our second day, Karen dished up a delicious continental breakfast that was more tham ample.

Our sincere thanks to Karen and John for making us feel like Butterfly Farm was our home away from home.

Wish we'd had more than one night! This is quite a remote area, nearest restaurants are in Post Campbell, and once you're here, you're truly getting away from it all. Your own sitting room with fridge, kettle, tea etc, and a lovely bedroom with 4-poster and single, perfect for small families or couples. Our 8 yr old loved the garden swing & the sweet old dog, and John and Karen are very friendly hosts. We had opted for a light breakfast, and wished we hadn't been so sensible when we read all other other guests' comments about the great breakfast- I think we missed out! But still got through piles of toast hearing John's tales of the 1970s music scene. Beautiful quiet cove nearby for sunsets.
