We found this place when we added an extra night to our stay in Glacier View at the last min. and realized the place we were staying at for the first night was completely booked out - what a stroke of great luck! We stayed at a bunch of places during our two weeks in Alaska, but the homestead cabins were by far our favorite stop and we wish we'd stayed longer!

Location: The homestead cabins are about 7 miles away from Matanuska glacier. The cabins are off the Glenn Highway but, with the directions Sandy shared in the reservation email, pretty easy to find. The Glenn highway and the Glacier View/Sutton area is beautiful with plenty to do - glacier hiking, ice climbing, zip lining!

Cabins: We stayed in cabin one, their smallest cabin, which is perfect for two people. We absolutely LOVED it!

It is a smallish place but the interiors are decorated beautifully. There's a living area with a comfy couch, a full kitchen with a two person dining table, a cozy bedroom with a queen bed and a little reading nook complete with an oversized chair! There is a deck out front with chairs and a small outdoor grill if you want to enjoy some sun with your food. The entire cabin including the bathroom was impeccably clean and tidy.

The kitchen has a collection of pots and pans, plates, cutlery, coffee and a few basic spices & condiments you might need to be able to whip up a meal. We'd strongly recommend picking up a few groceries on your way to the cabin coz the nearest restaurant is a 20 min drive.

Each of the three cabins are a fair distance from each other which gives you a complete sense of privacy and peace to enjoy your beautiful surroundings.

Hosts: Sandy and Dan are excellent hosts. They are warm, friendly and extremely personable. Our conversation with them was so easy and delightful that it never really felt like they were new people we'd never met before! Having been life-long Alaskans, they have so much to share about the land, people and (for a visiting guest) about things to do and places to experience in the vicinity. Dan gave us the fantastic idea of taking a small detour and making our way to Hatcher pass on the way back to Anchorage - we loved the drive, the views and the hike at the end.

If you are still in the planning phase of your trip to Alaska, we'd strongly recommend making a stop in Glacier View and making Sandy & Dan's cabins your 'home base' for exploring this area - you will absolutely not regret it. We would definitely love to go back here and stay at least for a week!

Room Tip: We stayed in the smallest cabin which was just perfect for two! The bigger cabins have WiFi.

We were on a family hunting trip and were exhausted, wet and hungry. We found the Cabins about 11 pm. Sandy was a gracious hostess even at that hour. The cabin was great: clean, neat as a pin and very intriguingly built. A lot of thought, effort and skill went into their construction.

Room Tip: cabins were all beautiful

This was by far the best place that we stayed at on our 10-day vacation in Alasks.
Sandy was very freindly and we had a nice conversation with her when we got there in the evenings. (Dan was out on a fishing tour with his brother so we did not get to meet him)

The cabins themselves are a piece of art. Everything is beatutifully crafted and the interiors are well decorated with very thoughtful touches throughout.

Kids felt at home with a box of Lego's at their disposal and the whole family enjoyed our post-dinner game of cards.

I strongly recommend staying here on your next visit. Look no further; it doesn't get any better than this.

Sandy greeted us as we drove up the driveway, and she could not have been nicer. Both kids said this was their favorite cabin on the trip, and they enjoyed driving up the highway to look for moose. Dan's suggestion was welcome, but we still had no luck seeing any of them. Gorgeous views from the cabin and along the road!

Sandy and Dan were super interesting to chat with. The cabin was very homey and beautiful woodwork. Kind of tricky to find so use the written directions rather than the gps. Also stop in Palmer or Wassilla to stock up on some food or you'll have to drive about 15 or 20 minutes to the nearest restaurant. Fully equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ. Very quiet and peaceful.
