We stayed here for one night on our way from Anchorage over to Valdez and while we visited the Matanuska glacier. This place was fantastic-Dan and Sandy are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive, the place is incredibly clean and has everything you could need including a great private bath and a kitchen as well as a great heater. It manages to be very cozy/cute/rustic Alaskan while still offering great amenities and being very comfortable. Hand built by Dan-impressive. Super close to Matanuska glacier and just off the Glenn Highway. Highly recommended.

We stayed in the smallest Homestead Guest Cabin for 3 nights in June. Dan and Sandy are just so friendly and helpful, telling us of a couple of wonderful walks not far from the cabins, where on one of them we encountered a Moose just so close!!
The cabin is beautifully built by Dan and immaculately clean, it has everything you need and is very warm. It was great to be able to cook our own meals in the well appointed kitchen. We loved the peace and quiet of the area and as has been previously mentioned it is quite close to the Matanuska Glacier. We did not do a trek on the glacier but paid the fee to be able to drive to near the edge and walked a little way on it.
A highlight of our tour of Alaska was being invited by Dan and Sandy to a BBQ Sunday lunch with local foods which were so tasty. It was great to meet some of the locals who must be some of the friendliest folk on this planet.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Homestead Guest Cabins for accommodation, nothing is a bother and Sandy was happy to answer our many questions before we booked.

If you plan on visiting the Matanuska Glacier, do not stay in Palmer or Wasilla or Anchorage, but stay right here. You will not regret it. Thanks to the Tripadvisor poster who steered us here...the place is really excellent.

It is located just off the Glenn Highway, just a few miles away from Mica guides (whom we used for our Matanuska glacier trek). The directions to reach here were provided in great detail, and we had no difficulty in finding the place, despite being located in true wilderness. We arrived fairly late at about 10pm, but Sandy was very considerate and accommodating. We had booked Cabin # 3, which is their largest cabin. It was a beautifully hand-crafted log cabin, with two bedrooms, a comfortable living area, spacious bath area which also housed a washer and dryer. Large outside porch, and plenty of wooded walking areas all around. We were kicking ourselves for staying only one night. It is worth spending more time here, as it is really a lovely place to enjoy.

They do not provide breakfast, so we had carried supplies. The kitchen was well equipped and we had no difficulties. We did our vacation laundry here, as it was very convenient with the washer and dryer located in the cabin. The cabin could have comfortably accommodated a family of 4, although we were only two of us.

Unfortunately we had to leave by 9am in the morning, as were booked on a 9:30am glacier trek. Sandy invited us to visit her house nearby before we left, and when we saw the views of the mountains from her garden, we were blown away ! What a place to live !

Such a shame to have spent so little time at such a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Only the large cabin (# 3) has has washer and dryer in the cabin; so select that if you plan on doing laundry.

If you're reading this review, it means you are considering Homestead Guest Cabins. Book this place and you won't regret it! I wasn't sure what to expect because I've never stayed in a cabin, never mind a log cabin, before. When I called to make the reservation, Sandy was super friendly and answered all my questions, even when I asked if there was air conditioning - she very kindly explained that the weather never got hot enough to need a/c and she was right! Before I arrived, I had emailed Sandy for some different reasons including asking about where to pick up groceries, if there were supplies provided such as cooking oil, utensils, etc, and also if we could have a small tv and DVD player in the cabin and she always replied very quickly and was very friendly (the answer was yes to all I asked). Getting to the cabin, the drive from Anchorage is great - so lovely with wonderful opportunities to take scenic photos. We stayed in the smallest cabin and when I opened the door, I was so thrilled. After staying in Anchorage where lodging is expensive and not so great, Homestead cabins provides everything you could possibly need and more that you didn't realize you may need. The cabin was just the right amount of space for all our luggage and our groceries. There is a full kitchen with all dishes, utensils, pots and pans for cooking if you wish, small table to eat at, sofa. All toiletries are provided and I think it must have a giant water heater because our water was always so so hot and it never ran out. Outside on the porch, you can sit outside and take in the scenery or grill if you want. I saw what looked like an outside fire pit if you wanted although we didn't use it. We stayed for three nights and slept really well while there. The location is close to both Mica Guides and I think also Nova, if you are there for their trips of ice climbing, trekking, rafting. There is no internet or tv, but Sandy provides instructions on where you can get free wifi 0.75 miles away and we had brought our own DVDs to watch on the tv they provided. If you want to chat, you can go up to Sandy and Dan's house to talk and they showed us their cabin as well. But if you prefer privacy, the cabins are situated in a way that you may not even run into Sandy or Dan at all. I would definitely recommend this place to stay. It's super peaceful, great value for money, and will recharge your batteries.

Wonderful place, wonderful hosts, wonderful stay! My family of 4 stayed in the largest of 3 cabins. The cabin was large, clean, and fabulous – even had laundry facilities – a huge plus! Pots of colorful flowers and creative wood working on the porch are warm and inviting. Our amazing hosts made this stop the highlight of our 2-week Alaskan vacation. We stayed for a week as there is so much to do here – and would loved to have stayed longer. Just the best! Highly recommended - Wonderful!
